We live in Harrogate and this is definitely not a 4.6 star. I notice that a lot of 5 stars have been given within the last two months, and any review older is by a ‘Guide’. We are honest, with no axe to grind. The food is abysmal, unless you go for the Sunday’s roast in the afternoon. The pub is lovely and the staff are kids trying hard so can’t knock them. Steak cold, so much so the butter stood solid on it. The mushrooms were shrivelled. Have a look at the Butter Chicken which someone recently said was the best sandwich they had. Obviously a fake review. We paid half price as per the deal - still not worth it. The reply will be sorry to hear, however, instead of saying this, improve your food. There’s too much competition. Please look at the photo. Embarrassing. I promise this is what it looked like.
We both had the buttermilk chicken burger and it probably the best chicken burger I’ve ever had. Staff were great, very helpful and friendly. Desserts were delicious (sticky toffee pudding and trio of cheesecakes). A bit more expensive than average pub meals but the food and atmosphere were far better than average. Would highly recommend.
We went here for a Sunday roast and it was lovely. Tucked in a cosy corner with the dog. The large pub doubled up as a hotel. The staff were attentive. Special call out for the nut roast, one of the best I’ve ever had as I tend to find them dry. The pork was lovely as well
A very nice pub with a garden as impressive as the building itself. We were only there for a drink but the member of bar staff was welcoming, chatty and fast with the service. All the interior decor is clean and modern but the garden is a wonderful space. Although no one else was sat there, the sound of running water in the pond is relaxing and it feels like living in your own country manor! Plenty of seating and tables suitable for groups are also present. It’s not the cheapest of pubs but for a more special occasion I’d certainly return.
A long established restaurant and hotel on the edge of Harrogate town. It's a beautiful building with plenty of character. The interior is well furnished in an interesting style (not sure about the neon elements). It is not particularly noisy, even when busy. Service is friendly and professional. We didn't need to wait too long for the food, although it was fairly quiet at the time. The menus have a good mix of dishes and should appeal to most. Vegan and vegetarian are clearly marked. The food... Overall it was very good, nicely flavoured and well presented. One of our group had the roast chicken dish. Unfortunately the chicken was rather dry and some of the vegetables weren't hot. Still happy to recommend and we will be back in the future.
