FOOD & ACCOMMODATION IN YEOVIL

“GREAT FOOD” – “BEAUTIFUL ROOMS” – “FANTASTIC CUSTOMER SERVICE”

This is what our customers regularly tell us.

We, Jon & Sarah, have owned the Pen Mill for 20 years. Personally running it with a hands on and get stuck in attitude.

We transformed the business from a popular music and drinking venue, to one of Yeovil’s most popular eating destinations. Add to this one of the area’s best accommodation offerings, premium quality drinks and outstanding customer service and you have the perfect place to eat, drink and stay. During the last rounds of the prestigious Taste of the West Awards, we were awarded a Gold Award for our Food and Silver for the Hotel, sadly just a couple of points off of a second gold!

The Pen Mill is now an established part of the local dining culture. It is nest;ed just over the border in Somerset, a stones throw from Dorset on the A30. On the edge of Yeovil, whilst overlokking beautiful countryside.

We won’t operate a “that’ll do” attitude or “that’s alright for you but not me”, Synonymous with so many businesses in the hospitality industry. If an item does not meet our own personal standards, we won’t it force it on you.

There is very much a family feel to our business. Not only are there three generations of our family working here at the hotel but an overwhelming feeling of togetherness amongst all our staff. Even George, our wonderful Golden Retriever brings a sense of homeliness to the hotel.

Customer and staff safety is more important than ever with the ongoing problems of Covid-19. It is something we take and will continue to take very seriously. Whilst we won’t disinfect you from head to toe as you enter the door, we do still have hand sanitisers at all doors, on all tables and in all hotel rooms. It’s just a little something to make you feel a little safer without being over clinical and too sterile.

Tables in the bar and restaurant are still at a reduced number. Only 20 out of a possible 27 are set out. We were shut for such a long time, we want you to feel you are in a clean, safe and protected environment. We want to gain and keep your trust because we want to keep your business.

You can book for both the hotel and to dine with us via this website at the top of this page or simply give us or our team of wonderful staff a call and we will get you booked in.

I cannot comment on the rooms as i have not stayed there, however I can comment on the service, food, drink, service & atmosphere all of which are excellent. There is a step to enter, but they have an appropriate ramp that is used to enable wheelchair access, it is dog friendly

Sunday carvery is cheap, and very popular. Sadly roast spuds and roast parsnips were almost inedible, but plenty of veg to choose from including sweetcorn?? Don't bother with Pen Mill cider, it's tasteless. Staff and service were very good. There's much better value for money carvery elsewhere, so I won't be rushing back.

Had the works Christmas meal here. The second time as last year was so good. Excellent starter, main carvery, but the pudding was a lit lack lustre. A small thin slice of a catering Christmas pudding. However, along with the mince pie and coffee afterwards, when taken as a whole, a slight disappointment in an excellent meal and service. Thank you, and I will book again for a 3rd year on the bounce.

Found this little gem as we have a small dog who we couldn’t leave in a cottage we rented. Also we had someone in our party who is intolerant to many things such as gluten, lactose and other things which they were more than happy to cater for, in addition that person loved their food! Food is good quality, freshly cooked not microwaved or prepackaged sauces. Atmosphere in the bar is really nice too and the seating is also really comfy in their booths. Lots of parking which is free too. They are super dog friendly , they even have toys and treats in the bar area for our four legged friends!

We booked to eat at the Pen Mill on Sunday, originally it was going to be for 7 people but unfortunately due to illness, this was reduced to 4. They were quite accommodating but we were somewhat surprised that they said they needed us to vacate the table by 1:30pm so were only allotted 1½ hours. Most people had the carvery, 2 of our number did say the beef was a bit chewy and the roast potatoes were hard. I had ordered the smoked chicken stack, which was nice, the chips were delicious although there was a slight tinge of pink in the chicken breast, something I wouldn't normally expect. I don't like to complain at the time, but I like to be honest. Overall I would say that the experience was okay, the staff were friendly and helpful.
