The Packet Steamer Beefeater restaurant in Liverpool

Here at the Packet Steamer Beefeater, Bootle we're famous for our friendly service and our perfectly grilled classic pub dishes. From our mouth-watering steaks to fresh fish and salads, you'll find plenty of great-value meals on the menu. We’re a great base for trips to Liverpool, and we’re a favourite with the locals too.

Our team

We’re lucky to have such a dedicated and passionate team at the Packet Steamer. Some of our team members have been with us for over 30 years! That’s over 30 years of learning how to create a relaxed atmosphere, how to serve food in style and ultimately to deliver the perfect steaks single time.

We love being part of the community in Bootle, and we’re looking to do more charity work soon. We’d also like to start supporting Bootle FC, the local football team.

Our location

We’re in a really convenient spot, only a 5-minute walk from the Old Roan train station with great links on to Liverpool and Ormskirk.

Our restaurant has two function rooms for hosting events. Our first room is smaller and holds up to 20 people, great for smaller occasions or gatherings. Our other function room can hold up to 50 people. Our function rooms are in a convenient part of the restaurant and are ideal for having your own space, make sure to book ahead if you’re interested!

We also have a relaxed, chilled out bar area, and we’re always showing the biggest games on BT Sports.

Make sure to take a look at our offers page for all our latest deals and promotions.

Why we love Liverpool

Bootle is a scenic town and a great spot for enjoying a slightly slower pace of life, while still being ridiculously close to Liverpool. In fact, we’re only a 20-minute drive or 40-minute train journey away from Liverpool City Centre – you couldn’t pick a better place for a relaxed bite to eat before exploring the city! Bootle is right next to the scenic River Mersey, Crosby Beach and Derby Park – plenty of great places to take the kids after a meal out without driving around for ages.

There’s so much to say about Liverpool, we can’t possibly do it all justice here. It’s the city that brought the world the Beatles, it’s a major dockland hub that was vital during the industrial revolution and it’s also the home of one of the leading UK football teams.

After you’ve enjoyed a delicious meal with us, we’d recommend seeing the Beatles Experience and the Albert Docks, they’re close together and really capture the excitement of the city. Whether you’re stopping by for breakfast, lunch or dinner, after your meal there’s so much to see in Liverpool afterwards. Enjoy a great night out at the Cavern Club, the legendary Beatles venue, catch a Liverpool FC game at Anfield Stadium or lose yourself in the natural history World Museum. There’s great parks and outdoor spaces for walks too like Calderstones Park and Birkenhead Park. And of course, the home of the Grand National, Aintree Racecourse is only 5-minute drive away from our restaurant too.

Had a very tasty evening meal whilst staying at the attached Premier Inn. Service was attentive and professional (thank you Ruth). I would recommend the stacked burger with the hot sauce, very spicy. The gammon steak which my wife had was also very tasty. There is a free carpark attached to the restaurant and hotel. There is also a bar for a drink after your meal which has a good choice of beers and larger.

Underwhelming and disappointing Table wasn’t ready for our booked time slot. Asked to wait at the bar and was not called back over when the table was ready, we had to ask them. It was busy and our server was as attentive as she could be and checked in with us when she could. The fries tasted like day old McDonalds chips reheated and without salt. Steak was cooked as I liked though.

I had an evening meal here as well as breakfast as I was staying in the adjacent hotel. All staff were extremely helpful and friendly, and couldn’t do enough for you which was great. I had the fish and chips with mushy peas for my evening meal which was lovely, really well cooked and very tasty. The breakfast is a buffet style but all good was tasty and hit, with plenty of choice and the coffee was great. A visit is highly recommended

Had an amazing meal, portion sizes were great couldn't finish what we'd been given, excellent value for money! Staff were warm and welcoming and Cheryl who was looking after us was great, so positive instantly made you feel better, atmosphere was quiet as we'd got there not long after opening time, really cosy place. Only issue I had was when I went to the men's toilet the cubicle was a mess of course I can't really blame the business for this as it was a customer who had left it like that, I couldn't take a star off for that tho as everything else was perfect! Will definitely be returning.
