We've visited the Boat House several times during longer journeys, and it's worth the detour. There's an excellent range of dishes on the menu, with gluten-free options. 🙂We like: the buzzing atmosphere outside in Summer, excellent service, tables not too close together. 😞We don't like: the sticky-taped floor and tired decor - but we're told it's about to be updated!

Food was excellent. Very noisy because of Rugby matches were on screen with other music on.very short of staff for a busy Saturday evening. One person was serving and one person was clearing the tables. Long queue to the till. We had to clear ourselves the table to sit down. So I had to find a bin and chuck other people's leftovers food and drink, tissues etc as we had a large crowd and needed 3 tables. When I asked member of staff to clear, I was told she will come around when she gets the time but never turned up so I had to clear the tables that we can sit down

A standard Greene King pub, but in a superb position beside the River Thames at Wallingford. Decent food and real ales at realistic prices, but it's the location that makes all the difference!

Staying locally and saw the sign outside recommending Fish and Chips so I gave it a go. It didn't disappoint, and it was nice to have fresh lemon and tartare sauce served with it . Batter was crispy altho' a little on the heavy side . I also ordered drinks and a dessert ( chocolate mocha tart) which was also tasty. It's a pub geared towards drinkers so the atmosphere was in keeping with that, rather than fine dining. Also the food service was a little slow , as waited nearly half an hour, and given that I was a solo diner this seemed excessive for a Weds eve. Can't fault the barman though. All in all worth a visit for standard no frills pub fayre.

Before the manager starts with his excuses, the pub was not busy, and they had plenty of staff. When we walked in the queue at the bar, there were 6 people before us, and one person serving another staff member started serving, and the queue started being served, not wanting to keep the other people waiting behind us we decided to order the drinks but order food using the app from our table. Big mistake the time from receiving the email confirming our order to it arriving at the table wae 37 minutes, seeing others ordering and being served before us, prompted me to ask where our order was at which time it arrived, we both ordered steak pie and mash, the mash looked like it had been under a heater for 20 minutes as it was like rubber (see pictures) the pie crust was rock hard and was inedible and the veg was cold, one side of the plate was red hot and the other stone cold. When a staff member came to collect the plates (still with uneaten food on them), nothing was said, so I asked if I could offer some feedback to which she said sure, I told the staff member that it was the worst meal I had ever had from a green king pub and the person that served us was in shorts and a dirty scruffy t-shirt who having served us holding the plate with his thumb touching the food sucked it as he walked away. The staff member said that she would inform the manager and that he would come over. After a long wait, we decided to leave, at which point the same staff member informed us that she had told the manager. I simply told her that we had waited, but it was clear that he was not interested as he had not bothered to come over and talk to us. We should have looked at the other reviews before we visited this place, not after as this seems to be a recurring theme at this pub. My advice stear well clear of this place and pick one of the other pubs that do food in the town, they are much better at training the staff and the food is edible.
