Last Saturday, we went to The Bell at Hampton Poyle for meal. It's a lovely local hotel with pub where they serve delicious food. We had The Gallows, which is beef fillet flambeed with brandy. Not only it looked like some sort of magic at the table when the meet was set on flames, it tasted magnificent! The rice underneath the gallows absorbed the meet juices and was very tasty. We loved the horseradish and peppercorn sauces, my husband also liked the garlic and herb sauce. The meet was tender and juicy, and was cooked to perfection. The propen chips were crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Even the veg were cooked perfectly. For pudding, we both had creme brulee which was very tasty as well, although we decided that next time we will have one between us, as for us it was a bit too big - one between us will be perfect. The team was very welcome and attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. And we will definitely go back there. Thank you!

Sunday lunch. A shame we weren't told there was no lamb before the waiter came to take our orders. Dad ordered chicken which came with fries so he asked for proper chips. It came with the unwanted fries and a side order of proper chips. Okay could argue we didn't make it clear, but thought it was obvious. Did get them reluctantly removed from the bill. Love not being rushed, but hate sitting with dirty plates in front of us for way too long. Gave up waiting on a previously ordered glass of wine and went to the bar. Gave up on the latte altogether - it was still on the bill. Ordered 2 cheesecake, 2 spoons delivered, 3 cheesecake arrived, one of which we refused! 3 on the bill and felt it was an uphill struggle to get them to believe we only ordered, ate and would pay for 2. Very nice food but service lacking despite very pleasant staff. Crying out for a maitre d' and better training.

The menu is unique. Rarely can I find a place that serves escargot, but this isle of amaziness also serves cheese soufflé, very light and delicate (not a greasy cheese melt you might think of), and delicious mussels. We also had the Gallows steak, not just it is absolutely delicious but also a spectacular piece to see served. They were also able to make me a Bloody Mary, even though its not in the printed menu. Service was second to none. I felt we were genuinely welcome here and staff really cared that we are comfortable. What a gem of a place!

Had a great stay here. The room was very nice, great value for the "boutique" style. Could maybe do with a new TV, but who really cares. Had a very good meal as well. Thought I'd blown the bank drinking G&T, but turned out they were good value as well.

We were visiting Oxford with friends and though only about 40 miles away wanted too stay locally so we could pack in as much as possible and found this great place on line. The service was great from the moment we arrived. We are in the restaurant the first night and it was a fantastic meal. The room was big and welcoming and though a few little Nigel’s I would still highly recommend. The breakfast was superb and cooked to order!
