About us

We are a small freehouse micropub in Petts Wood serving local and nationally produced real ales from small breweries, Kent Chapel Down wine, Kent Dudda Tun cider and an array of Fentimans soft drinks and local pear and apple juice. At the wide wooden bar counter you can see into our temperature controlled cellar room behind and watch your beers and ciders being served straight from the barrel. The real ale menu is listed on a blackboard behind the bar. We are involved in the CAMRA LocAle scheme which actively promotes locally-produced real ales and we offer a discount on all ales to subscribed CAMRA members.

Our ethos is to listen to our customers, serve locally crafted cask ales, promote conversation (there being a charity fine box for mobile phone use inside) and shunning all forms of electronic entertainment. It is our intention is to be a community spirited establishment focussing on produce from our wonderful county of Kent.

The name comes from the owners memories of his grandfather, who used to run a pub in Sittingbourne and used to ask regulars to put ‘one in the wood’ when they offered to buy him a drink.

Under new management (Jan 2024) with a general spruce-upof the venue, this little (dog friendly) independent pub is still the best in Petts Wood. Pints and snax are reasonably priced and there is always plenty of choice.

Triffic local beer emporium. Smart but sympathetic refurb staying true to its roots. Gravity-dispensed cask ale, from top breweries near and far and across the style spectrum is impeccably served. 2 keg lines newly installed are a great addition. Owner and bar staff work tirelessly, enthusiastically and are super friendly and welcoming to all. A credit to Petts Wood Village and the wider area.

If you want real ale, properly kept and served in an environment without video screens and loud music then you'll like this place. A nice place to chat with friends. No food, just snacks.

Top marks for food, but it's really the fantastic beers and cider. Our favourite local. It's got nothing fancy, it's not really family friendly (our daughter is 11, and happy to sit and chat outside, if you've got kids probably best avoid. Have a take out pint though) It's definitely worth a trip

What a great find! Super convenient location, friendly staff, a fabulous selection of local brews, wine, and bubbles, and a really lovely laid back atmosphere. Can't wait to visit again!
