A traditional looking pub, with loads of knickknacks hanging from the ceiling and pictures on the wall to impress the tourists - plenty of brewery mirrors in evidence, along with recruitment posters from the second World War and stuffed birds.
It's not a coffee house, it's a pub – but if they called it 'The Old Pub', it would just sound daft. But what the Old Coffee House lacks in coffee it makes up for in Assorted Pub Crafts; vintage ads on mirrors, copper kettles and amateur taxidermy pieces adorn every available wall space, and a fire crackles away in the corner, while two inoffensively sized screens broadcast sport, thankfully silently on our visit. It has an unfussy proper-pubness to it, even if a more cynical eye might put the 'proper' in quotes.
Fortunately, the craft beer on tap from Leyton microbrewery Brodie's completes the effect – it's excellent. What might be a slightly dingier boozer elsewhere in town absorbs vital Soho energy from Soho and becomes brilliant, as old geezers, creative types and tourists (and probably at least one old creative tourist geezer) happily intermingle.
No longer an old coffee house but instead a really cosy and traditional pub with a lovely friendly atmosphere. It’s very large so even on a busy evening there’s plenty of spots to relax in your group and there’s loads of artwork and history on the walls throughout to admire. Good range of drinks are on offer at decent prices and the service is friendly. A wonderful unique place to go for a drink with friends.
On, the evening of Saturday 20th January 2024 for the first time I experienced this venue due to a recommendation of a close friend showing me around. A great conversation with the Australian member of the venue team was memorable resulting in one of the best Saturday nights I've had in years. A gem of Soho.
I thought it was a coffee shop and accidentally stepped inside. However, the vibe is very nice and I'm glad I was there. I tried the pale ale for the first time and really enjoyed it. The staff were very friendly to me (as I'm really not familiar with the bar). A nice place to away from the crowd in SOHO.
Really enjoyed it...but must add if there was no TV playing and just music it would be superb in there. I'm looking forward to a winter drink in here. Loved it
Excellent vibe. Interior is super traditional pub. Thank goodness this is away from the craziness of the Soho crowd. We’re from the States… Popped in for a brief beer and snack at the bar. Tried all the Brodies - not for me, but the partner drank a Bethnal Green and survived. Guiness for me and we devoured these chips - well, I had the Scampi fries. People downstairs were clearly having fun and we would return if we are in the area.
