About us

A former branch of the TSB, this welcoming pub has recently went though an extensive refurbishment, opening up the impressive domed ceiling to let in natural light, showing the wonders of the new decor, and the formidable safe to one side of the newly updated bar is still on display for all to see. Full of character, it attracts a lively mix of locals, ranging from families enjoying the comfort-food menu to sports fans checking our new big-screen and televisions surrounding to make sure you don't miss any of the action, and a younger crowd drawn to the live DJ every Saturday night, and the live band nights at the end of each month. There's also a newly regenerated beer garden where you can enjoy a Belhaven Best or perhaps one of our Guest Ales on one of many tables.

My sister and I went for lunch on 11/10 as it was her birthday, we both decided on the steak and ale pie, chips and peas. The meal came and all was well till we were trying to cut the pie, the pastry was very hard and difficult to cut my first bit ended up on the floor. We did both enjoy the flavour of it though. A little less pastry and a bit more meat wouldn't go a miss, thankfully we were given a small jug of gravy each which helped or it may have been very dry. Have used before and will come back.

We found this place coming off the cruise ship and talking with a couple of the security workers at the port. We asked them, "Where would you go to lunch that's within walking distance of the port?" The two of them thought briefly and said "Tail O' The Bank" with a wonderful Scottish accent thick enough our American ears could barely decipher it. But we got it sorted and had a nice stroll to the restaurant. We ordered at the bar, "Two orders of fish and chips" and then we were all confused, patrons and bar tender when we said we did want "peas". We didn't know what it was and the lady behind the bar couldn't understand why we didn't want them. It was great; I love cultural confusion! I told her our table number and after a short while the best beer battered fish and chips we've ever had arrived and we enjoyed it immensely. It was one of our touchstone moments of our brief time in Scotland. And the prices were very reasonable! Wishing you all the best from the States!

Lovely breakfast this morning! First time in for breakfast which is served until noon. The vegetarian full cooked was tasty and a good sized portion. However the Breakfast in Bread surpassed expectation. It was a grand portion and was delicious! Will be back.

Thought we would try this place as we were passing. Nice decor friendly staff. The food we ordered wasn't good chicken was small. Too much coleslaw On the plate to make it look full. Peppers were tiny. Not for us and wouldn't return. Better food in town for same price. And not dry chicken

Nice atmosphere and pub, but the food was horrible this time round... after a 35 minute wait we had asked for medium rare steaks with a grill and recieved the aftermath of a cremation... burger followed suit and was served stone cold and solid. Had absolutely 0 seasoning, tiniest squirt of sauce on the burgers and entire dish caked in barbeque sauce with no mention of this on the menu and onion rings missing, portion was good for money though... sad as it had next to no taste
