About us

It's been known for former account holders to call by, proudly brandishing their original withdrawal cards. These days, it's well worth investing some time in a pub where you can bank on a friendly welcome, good company and a fine pint of Belhaven Best or Belhaven IPA. The Old Bank Bar attracts a loyal band of regulars as well as a city-centre mix of shoppers, football fans and students, many of them lured in by the promise of great meal deals.

Visiting UK from Australia and once we arrived Dundee on Jan 1st, we were looking for a place to eat out. Almost everywhere was closed and I first hesitated to go in as normally the food in the bars are not too great in Australia. However, Old Bank Bar food was great. The food quality is just top-notch, the meat, salad and ingredients were all nice and fresh. The bar staff was also very friendly and helpful. Thank you guys.

Great pub and also has very nice food if you’re hungry. I got the steak pie today half expecting it to be one of the shortcrust pastry ones (that’s what Greene King places have given me in the past). Was pleasantly surprised when a lovely big puff pastry pie came out. Despite having loads of gravy already, it also came with an extra dipping pot of gravy. The food was absolutely fantastic and very filling.

Starting with the good: The service is great and everyone is very friendly. We ordered fish and chips, and steak pie. The fish was great, nice and flaky with crispy batter. The tartar sauce is tasty, too. The chips were excellent! Now, on to the not so great. The steak pie was unfortunately quite bad (and quite small). The steak was way overdone and mushy. The puff pastry was hard and just not edible. Both of us had garden peas with our meal and they were cold. This was probably connected to the cold plates/service dishes. We did let staff know and they very kindly replaced the steak pie with fish and it was much appreciated. Overall, we’d be back for beers, but probably not for food.

I don't normally write reviews, but in this case I've had to make an exception. Starting with ambiance/environment, plenty of seating available. Seated upstairs, it was quiet and comfy. Each area has its own TV screen so you can enjoy whatever you fancy. Drinks were super cheap; as low as 3.30£ for some ales. Food was cheap too. We thoroughly enjoyed the mix and share - 5 dishes for 23.5£. Food was incredible. Hot, well-cooked and the flavours were on point. Prawns were bland but that's to be expected. Shout-out to the waitress serving us. Didn't get her name but she was a young, brunette Scottish girl (I've had to change it from blond to brunette after I conferred with my mates, I was too lost in her pretty eyes to notice, apologies!!). She was absolutely fantastic. Asked us several times whether we were okay, enjoying the food, and cleared the empty plates promptly. She was very kind, polite and had a lovely smile. Seriously she deserves a bonus or something. 10/10 experience.
