About us

High beamed ceilings and a traditional stone fireplace create the ideal location to enjoy the fine food and exceptional range of ales on offer.

The Carts Bog Inn dates back to 1775 and was originally built as a coaching inn, currently the old cow byre now houses the restaurant. The name Carts Bog is believed to have come about after carts carrying minerals from the Alston Lead and Silver mines would get stuck in local bogs and the coaching inn was opened to offer the drivers warmth and a hearty meal.

THE BEST FOOD EVER. By the off chance we decided to go to this little old pub for a bite to it, but they weren’t serving food, so we sat for a drink, but Graham kindly asked if we would like some bog pie - what a legend he is. It is honestly the best food I’ve ever ate, in a lovely lovely lovely little traditional pub. Two beautiful dogs by the fire, cosy atmosphere and the most amazing service. Down to earth and so welcoming. 10 out of 10 out of this world.

Excellent Sunday dinner, excellent quality and plenty of food. Service was good, but could have been more attentive (I know every customer is different on this topic). Would definitely visit again!

Very welcoming hosts. The food was really good. The Bog pie and Lamb shank are packed with flavour. Possibly the largest Lamb shank I’ve had! Well worth a visit.

If you have not had a Sunday dinner here since Graeme and Krystal took over recently then you are missing out! You would think they had been there forever! The pub gardens look beautiful, the pub was busy which is always a good thing and the food was just incredible the photos don’t do it justice at all. Even though the pub was full we didn’t wait long at all for ours and everything was perfect! Can’t wait until they open more days again, we will be back!

Lovely Sunday lunch here. Booked a table for 12pm which I'd advise, it looked to get busier as the afternoon went on. Ordered the beef which was lovely, the gravy was very rich but I enjoyed it. Lemon tart was gorgeous for dessert. Only slight thing I'd say was service was a bit slow but I'd definatley go back.
