About us

The Snowy Owl sits on the site of Plessy North Moor Farm, which was originally part of the estate owned by the Ridley family of Blagdon Hall. When converted to an inn, the building was named The Plessy Farm, though the structure has been rebuilt and restored at least three times since it was originally constructed long before 1600.

A country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character, our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

Whether you are planning dinner with friends or Sunday lunch with family, book a table online and enjoy some quality time with those you love the most.

First walked in and it was a lovely atmosphere, fire was roaring near the front door and people around having food and drinks, I booked in advance and requested a window seat for 6.30pm and we were then put in a cold empty part of the restaurant next to an electric heater , it was obvious the staff seen us hugging this heater too for warmth it was so cold🤣 Very expensive for mediocre food, Sharing platter starter was just weird, menu said battered prawns and we got calamari (no one said about a change), the chicken bites were bland in a weird sauce and the koftas and pitta bread were really nice, the nicest thing we had! No one did a check back on our mains where they would have seen my boyfriend couldn't eat his burger as one side was so tough we couldn't even get a finger through it, it was took off the bill at the end but a replacement at the time would have been nice but we were so out of the way, basically forgotten about , plates were sitting Infront of us for around 20 minutes until someone cleared them My stuffed chicken was nothing special and the green beans had a weird fishy taste to them All in all not the best experience and I wont be recommending it to anybody!

We have usually only come to this pub to celebrate something. Today was a birthday. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was lovely. Downsides are I felt like we had been forgotten again. We arrived well before 2 other tables and only got our food about 30 minutes after them. I asked for a pint of pepsi and had to remind them to get it as this seemed to be forgotten to. It arrived after my meal not during when I wanted it. It a great pub. Must have been bad luck with service today.

Fairly busy for a weekday, plenty of seating options and various ‘settings’ - you can sit next to the fire, or in your own booth, or in the main restaurant. Great selection. Service was excellent. Eve was super approachable, well informed of all the products and always happy to help - going above and beyond to check on availability for our party. Lovely mannerisms and kept us updated about large party bookings. Selection of food was brilliant. Plenty of options, very prompt service and tasted fresh and well presented.

My wife, 14 Yr old and I stopped here, on route to Scotland, it was just off the A1 and the price for a family room was very good. The location is nice , the pub looks great , inside and out, the food was very good, we had a mix of the menu, which was tradition pub food, no complaints all round. Our room was spacious, clean and a nice bathroom attached, a great place for a stop over or for a base to explore the North East, having found the Snowy Owl, I would recommend to friends and family and would stay at this location again.

The food is basic, nothing fancy, yet nothing to complain. However, I think I would go again to try more dishes. The place was clean and had a spacious good vibe.
