About us

Our brilliant chef, Gabor Pustzai; crowned North East Chef of The Year 2013, changes the menu daily, offering delicious home-made food prepared with locally sourced, seasonal produce where ever possible. We keep our kitchen supplied with fresh vegetables from our very own vegetable garden.

The Pack Horse Inn is the perfect country retreat and provides an ideal base for exploring our beautiful Northumbrian coastline and castles. It’s also a great location for guests attending weddings at some of the areas larger venues such as Ellingham Hall, Doxford Hall and Newton Hall.

We refurbished the pub in March 2014, now cosy new furnishing and a totally renovated restaurant are among the many improvements providing a lovely dining atmosphere for lunch or dinner. In summer you can also enjoy our lovely garden, which we landscaped just this year to create a pleasant outdoor space. We were careful to retain the character of the pub so you can still see over 180 jugs hanging from its exposed beams, while the beautiful flagstone floor and open fire completes the scene.

The Pack Horse Inn is dog friendly in the bar and in the snug which offers wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. Regrettably we cannot allow dogs into our restaurant. You are able to enjoy great food, drink and log fires, whether it’s for a special occasion or after a long day out walking in Northumberland.

We serve real ale, we always have Black Sheep together with a locally brewed guest ale and a fine selection of wine.

My partner and I were having a long weekend in Bamburgh and decided to have an evening meal at the very popular pack horse Inn. We weren't disappointed, the food and service was amazing, couldn't fault it less. I didn't catch the waitresses name but if your reading this you were amazing. Serving a couple from the south of the country. 5 star establishment

Visited this classic English gem whilst on holiday in the North East and we couldn't praise it enough. Booked in advance after speaking with a really helpful staff member who proactively asked if we were bringing a dog, which we were. On arrival our whole party was greeted with an enthusiastic and warm welcome. The food was amazing with the portions on the larger side of perfect. Proper good quality grub. Loads of choice of both food and quality wines. We would quite honestly drive from Manchester just to eat there again.

Called here for tea with my wife and kids last minute. Just wanted some decent ‘pub grub’ but what we got was far better! Well priced, tasty food with a good kids menu. The pie was beautiful and rich, with lots of veg and good chips! Service was quick but not rushed. Overall would highly recommend here over the more expensive (and lower quality) pubs closer to the coast.

Visited on the recommendation of the owner of the Airbnb property we stayed in. Service and food quality was exceptional. My family and I would recommend the restaurant. The beer on offer were excellent. The menu was varied with approx. (from memory) 3 appetisers, 5 starters, 10 mains and about 8 desserts. We had the fish and chips (huge fish), steak and ale pie and chicken wrapped in bacon. All were excellent examples of this type of dish. Value was good considering the quality of the food and portion size. Booking of a table recommended.
