About us

Situated approximately one mile from the A1, perfectly positioned for direct access north and south, lies the idyllic village of Felton.

The Northumberland Arms was built in the 1820’s by Hugh Percy, 3rd Duke of Northumberland as a Coaching Inn where his coach horses, family and visitors could be refreshed before reaching Alnwick Castle. The building has been lovingly restored (and not without its major ‘Grand Designs’ pitfalls) and presents the ultimate in chic, eclectic styling, whilst remaining warm comfortable and welcoming. Its six luxury en suite guest rooms were awarded a 4* Gold rating in 2014 and a 5* rating in 2015.

Style, comfort and ultimate luxury are key and no expense has been spared to ensure the Rooms match the ambiance of the bar/lounge/restaurant area. The initial reaction to the rooms has quite simply been ‘WOW’! Complimentary robes, spring water in addition to ‘Bari’ infused teas are served in each room, in addition to sensor lighting, terrestrial TV, telephone and a complimentary breakfast is served in the River Room to residents from 8.30am until 10.30 am.

Fabulous place. We stayed overnight and had lunch, dinner and breakfast here. (very) dog friendly including a specific dog friendly menu. Our dog-friendly bedroom (not all of them are, so check when booking) was spacious and a lovely big bathroom including both bath and shower. Few scuffs here and there jut nothing to detract from a great stay. If I was to be picky, I'm not one for pre-ordering breakfast, but on this occasion was happy to comply. Lots of parking and a beautiful part of Northumberland. Overall a top notch stay, a real treat.

Outstanding service! I arrived with a colleague hoping for a drink and somewhere quiet to do some work. It was a busy lunchtime and, despite not wanting food, a table was found and someone came to get us when it was ready. More generally, the pub was warm and welcoming, very clean throughout, with good decor and furniture. Great selection of drinks. I wish I could say more about the food selection (and also wish the Northumberland Arms was closer to where I live).

We were lucky enough to have our Xmas dinner there this year. The food was outstanding and the staff couldn’t have been more attentive. We had one vegetarian in our company and she stated she’d never been served such a beautiful meal. The whole place was very festive. Thank you for a wonderful time

Nice lovely large pub with roaring fires and delicious ales. We stopped for a three course meal. The food was very good. We both had the fishcake starters and then I had the fish and chips with my wife opting for the lamb for the main course, finishing off with a chocolate cake and a crumble. Prices are a little on the higher side but it was a lovely experience with great service, a lovely place and very nice food.

Lovely place. In particular the food here is excellent. The room was also large and comfortable, with comfy chairs - but nowhere to work if you are here on business as I was. I also appreciated the early breakfast and friendly staff. The only real downside is the cost for B&B, which is definitely on the high side.
