Yates is a leading venue in the centre of York, popular with students and tourists alike
This is a vibrant, friendly venue, with doormen here at weekends to maintain our trouble-free status. Busy throughout the day and night, with shoppers, visitors to the area, business people and students. Spread across two floors, Yates is the perfect place to come and eat, meet up with friends or party the night away.
We have a whole host of entertainment throughout the week including 'Holy Cow'' from 8pm on Wednesdays where we have selected drinks from £1 and many more offers. Check out our ‘what’s on’ page for more offers.
Open seven days a week, from as early as 9am, there are great offers on food and drink – this is why Yates’s in York is the number-one destination venue.

Arrived in York around 16.30 tonight. Went straight out to make the most of our visit. Around 2000 hrs thought we'd go to your establishment, as we have many times previously for a drink and a bite to eat. Me and my 18 year old son were ahead of my wife, my daughter and her boyfriend so we thought we'd grab a table. At the door we were met by 2 door staff. The younger one asked my son for ID, which he provided. He then informed us that they didn't allow anyone with joggers in. Why ask for ID then. Since when as Yates has a dress code? It's hardly a 5 star restaurant. We weren't drunk or being rowdy I'm 53. So in future when we visit York we won't be visiting your establishment. If it was midday would we have been turned away?
The music was loud and not to our taste. The service was good apart from the bar staff telling us they didn't serve coffee after meal only to be told by the waiter they do, so we had to go to the bar a second time to order coffee. The meal itself was average but scampi was crispy and a bit overdone, steak was OK.
Where to start. The Pub was quiet and so ordered a festive burger with chips, a diet coke and a side portion of chips with a latte coffee for my partner. I got the diet coke at the bar after ordering and was told they would fetch the coffee over. After 15 minutes I asked where the coffee was, only to be told they had a load of other orders to do first. 10 minutes later the coffee arrived with no apology for the 25-minute delay. After another 10 minutes the burger and chips plus the side of chips arrived. Again no apology for the delay. The Burger was okay, but the chips were stone cold and had been cooked at least 20 minutes, they were terrible. I wish could say it had been busy which may have helped to justify some of the delay, but nothing could explain it, other than poor service and a lack of interest by the staff. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. I should add I rarely leave poor reviews, but this isn't how you run a customer focused business. Staff training / supervision is clearly required. Affordable and delicious, the food exceeded expectations. The breakfast was particularly good, and the staff exhibited politeness and provided a warm welcome. The cleanliness and tidiness of the bar area added to the overall positive experience
This was a lovely bar for drinking, with the design of the walls harboring York's history! Flags help decorate and the counter is well-presented, with lovely staff too. I felt lucky they had the rarity of Mango cider and this was superb, which I had at comfy old-school seating!
