Welcome to the Masons Arms

The Masons Arms is an independent and privately operated traditional British pub.

The pub was built in 1935 in Tudor style as a flagship project by the local Tadcaster Tower Brewery. The interior of the Masons Arms provides a setting for some genuine Gothic features including oak paneling from York Castle and the fireplace from the Castle gatehouse.

It is the high quality of these features and the pub’s enviable reputation for its fine food and hand pulled ales that contributes most to the pub’s special character. The Masons Arm’s enviable position overlooking the City walls and Gatehouse and with a secluded beer terrace overlooking the River Foss make it a popular venue with locals and tourists alike.

Didn’t stay here but the food was excellent. Had the pork belly porcheta. The crackling was perfect and the meat was tender and juicy. Staff were very friendly and the bar had a great atmosphere. Would highly recommend!

Stunning pub with slice of pie that Desperate Dan would struggle with. Bar staff are friendly, attentive, happy/smiley and understand a Glasgow accent just as well because there was another couple of Glaswegians in the same night 👍 The food is what you would expect from a proper pub, absolutely delicious and cheap for what we got. Why anyone would go to Spoons etc when this place is here... Thanks very much, my mum will definitely go back when she returns to York.

Eat here. It’s an authentic , generous, comfortable, welcoming and heartwarming experience. Their food portions are large and the delicious way they are prepared encourages you to eat beyond the limits of your appetite. It’s also a dog-friendly place which shows the kind heart of these hosts.

We had a lovely few drinks here and were served by the incredibly friendly Daphne who was always on hand to fetch us more drinks with a smile. Lovely venue full of interesting pictures from the past. They seemed to serve some lovely meals from what we could see coming our from the kitchen. The place was busy but it was never too loud and we had an enjoyable evening chatting away before our comedy gig at the venue just round the corner. Thoroughly recommend to anyone visiting the area.

We love a good roast! We were recommended via Facebook to try this place by several people. It’s a traditional English pub… decor a bit dated but it has a nice feel and lovely service. I ordered the pork and everything was exactly what I wanted… lots of gravy, good veg and well cooked with apple sauce. My girlfriend ordered beef which was a bit over cooked for are liking but still nice nonetheless… I’d recommend the pork. We haven’t tried the chicken.
