A very warm welcome to The Lighthorseman, a popular local pub situated in the Fulford area of York; an ancient city famed for its rich historical heritage and wealth of fantastic attractions for all to enjoy. We are located close to the Barbican which is approximately a 2 minutes’ walk away and ideally situated for the races too. Did you know that we are also the only pub in the world with our name (as far as we know) and we even have our own friendly ghost, George! We’re also known for our brilliant food, a wide range of great Cask ales and offer quality guest accommodation. Bartender Lauren was so attentive and welcoming, deserves a raise. Really enjoyed my time. She’s a lovely girl and the vibes were a 10/10. Definitely recommend.
Went for a pub dinner and to watch the local match. Good beer, good food. Restaurant area in back was fine for kids.
Nice staff, well situated, no parking, limited real ale and the two IPAs I had didn't taste quite right. Maybe it was me but ...? Quite loud 80s music vids continuous on the screens which I guess is aimed at the, mainly, young students who kept coming, even at 11.10pm. after time had been called. Not for us but good luck to them.
Excellent stay here , period charm of staying in an original Victorian pub. Rooms are basic and clean, breakfast excellent as is the service, good selection of beers at reasonable prices, it may not suit those who are used to staying in high end hotels , but this is a different experience altogether, back to how accomodation used to be done with its own character, I couldn't fault anything
Good location just outside the city walls and an easy 15 minutes stroll into town. River walk nice option by day but didn't chance it at night as seems to be a great hangout for the local drunks. Had room only which was fine so can't comment on food and service. Pub is right on the road so traffic noise may be an issue to light sleepers; I found this out at 0500. Great for the price so absolutely no complaints and I would come again.
