About us

A charming country pub on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds. Boasting a warm friendly atmosphere, we pride ourselves on our quality food and drink; using only the best from local suppliers. We aim to be set apart as an outstanding pub in the area, known for the consistently high quality products we offer. A place for the whole family, to be enjoyed all year long by the log burning stove or out in the large garden.

With the increasing trends toward the gastro pub we are determined to bring exceptional quality back to the traditional country eatery. Proper “pub grub”, done properly good. We also keep things varied with our changing specials board and vegetarians are well catered for by our creative and deliciously seasonal dishes. We have a fun and tasty kids menu and as well as accommodating your little ones, we welcome your four legged friends too. (CLOSED MONDAY'S).

Throughout the year we host a variety of live music acts, from acoustic singer songwriters to jazz bands and our calendar is full of unique events, such as bike rides, bbq’s and treasure hunts; so be sure to keep checking in for news of what’s going on.

Here at the Carp’s we have fantastic facilitates, with a large car park and space for bikes. Our location is perfect as a base for exploring the famous Yorkshire Wolds before ending the day with a refreshing drink and tasty meal.

We look forward to welcoming you in.

Visited with my wife for a beer and to check the place out. Lovely pub that just says come in. We will be booking a meal soon.

Absolutely disgusting that the landlady refused to give our friend hot water to make her baby’s bottle - her excuse - ‘we are far too busy.’ Far too busy is no excuse, I’m sure no customer would have begrudged waiting 2 more minutes to get us some hot water. Our friend, 6 months pregnant and with a hungry 10 month old baby, left in tears. Feeding a baby is a basic human right. I’m completely shocked.

Food mixed bag, my mother and law had steak pie and chips which seemed decent but my wife and I had lasagne which is one of the most mediocre I've ever tasted and quite dry. Another criticism was the fact you could not have your meal outside in the beer garden and had to come inside which was an uncomfortable experience. We would of preferred to sit outside as had our dogs with us, as this was a stop off to our holiday destination. Our main criticism was the bar maid who was unfriendly, rude and quite frankly lifeless. We felt we were constantly watched and under her scrutinising gaze. Although it was a dog friendly pub, it didn't seem friendly due to the aforementioned bar maid When we first came into the pub, we asked her where the toilets were and getting a response out of her seemed like a huge inconvenience. Another lady who worked there was on her break and stood out at the front entrance of pub. She was much more friendly and nice to our dogs. Otherwise there were not many positives and would not return of back in the area.
