About us

We have Cask Marque accreditation and every Wednesday is Cask Ale day when all of our five cask ales and hand pull cider are £2.60 a pint. A Cask Ale card is available and after ten pints, you get a free one. All our spirits and liqueurs are carefully chosen from all over the world. Our house wines are Jack Rabbit, who provide a comprehensive choice to tempt you. We also have our wine fridge which has a changing range of high quality wines, cava's and champagnes that have been thoughtfully selected.

Entertainment is provided each evening with three widescreen TVs showing the full Sky Sports program. Every other Monday is open mic night when local talent gets the chance to showcase themselves, Tuesday is Karaoke night and on a weekend live music is provided by high calibre local entertainers. We also have a famous jukebox which comes into its own on event weeks.

One of the original homes of the Goths the pub has its own vibrant atmosphere on both of these famous festival weeks. It is also proving very popular on folk week with musicians playing live al fresco sets on the new beer terrace. This is proving an excellent addition providing the only outdoor drinking area in the upper part of town. If the forecast is right in the summer season a bbq is run on a Wednesday night.

All in all the pub provides a quality experience for any body who chooses to have a drink with us and it is a pleasure to see you coming through our doors.

It is a lovely pub with beer garden and a wide range of beers. CAMRA members get a discount on real ale if you show your membership card. A local cafe provides a menu and delivers your orders to the pub.

A distinctly average experience, and that’s being charitable. Not a particularly welcoming environment despite the pub not being overly full. Ordered what was supposed to be a pint of cola and got a thin glass of it with more ice than drink. In a pint glass it would probably have not made it half way up. Whitby is a smashing place and choice of pubs is numerous. I’d choose another next time around.

Popped in for a quick pint. Pros: dog friendly, good selection of rum and real ales. Cons: bit damp and a bit tired inside. Football crowd and loud pop music isn't our scene. Most unfortunately though; the Double Maxim was not well-kept. Shame.

Nice pub, just up from main hubbub, so a bit quieter. Popped in for a drink and a sandwich and wasn't disappointed. Plenty of ales on tap and a good selection of sandwiches. The chocolate Old Peculiar was really nice as was the prawn mayo sandwich. The girl behind the bar was polite and attentive and made us feel welcome. Will definitely visit again when we next visit Whitby
