About us

Wainwright’s famous 'Coast to Coast' walk passes right by the front door of the Blue Bell Inn. We are even mentioned in Wainwright's book, making our pub an excellent place to stop for a refreshing pint, or an over- night stay. Location: The Blue Bell Inn at Ingleby Cross is conveniently located approximately 10 miles south of Teesside on the fringe of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and nestling in the Cleveland Hills. Ingleby Cross is located close to where the A19 and A172 Stokesley road merge and hence is very convenient to get to from all directions. Just turn into the village from the A172 and you will find the Blue Bell at the main village cross roads.

Nestling at the foot of the picturesque Cleveland Hills on the fringe of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and convenient also for Herriot Country, Thirsk, Northallerton, the East Coast (Whitby, Saltburn) and the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The historic and picturesque city of York with its famous York Minster is within an hour’s drive

As you’d expect from a traditional ‘free house’ establishment, the Blue Bell Inn is family run by brother and sister Christopher & Samantha with help from mum and dad, Dave and Sue who are always available to make sure your stay, no matter how long or short, is a fulfilling and pleasant one. The location of the Blue Bell Inn makes it a firm favourite for bed & breakfast for coast to coast walkers - the views are nothing short of breath taking.

Dining: A full English breakfast is available in our cosy bar area between 07.00am and 9am. Both lunchtime and evening bar meals are also served seven days a week during the summer months. The menu is regularly updated we offer both vegetarian and meat dishes and cater for specific dietary requirements such as gluten free foods..

A warm welcome always awaits you at the Blue Bell Inn, Ingleby Cross, where you are only a stranger once.

Highly disappointed!.. Room: I have never stayed so can't really comment. Location: The pub's location is really good. One star for service and overall: I phoned ahead on Thursday evening. No answer, nor an answering machine. Friday (today) at around 11.30am the same as before no answer. I then decided to go to the pub early, as I was staying locally, to see if I could get a meal and have a drink, as I didn't want to drive again due to being out all day. From the start I didn't feel welcome at all. I ordered a Fosters, it was dark and more like an ale. I took it over to the table. While the gentleman behind the bar was pouring my drink he couldn't stop coughing! I discreetly explained that the Fosters was not right and was flat, and very cloudy - like ale - and I had one sip and it was horrible. I felt awkward about telling them, because I didn't want to complain. The lady then poured me a different drink and that was okay. I asked if I could order some food and the lady went to the kitchen to see if they could fit me in, and the answer was yes. I was offered one of two different tablets, both of which were needed by 7pm. As I had arrived at 5.40pm I said no problem, the people that had booked the table I was sitting on then turned up at 6pm, and pointed my way, and I heard them say this is our table... while I was eating! I felt awful, and felt I needed to rush my food and drink. I ordered the small Chicken Parmo and it looked really nice when it arrived. But, as I started to eat, I noticed that some of the salad was wilted, so I avoided it. The center of the chicken was nice, but quite a bit of it around the edges was so tough and not edible, so left it. I felt uncomfortable as I knew people were awaiting for the table. I moved and sat on the chair next to the entrance with the rest of my drink. I went to pay and noticed that there was a table suitable for two persons, with on one sat at it, so most of the above could have been avoided. I asked the lady behind the bar, "that table seems free, can I sit there?", and she said yes and seemed embarrassed, adding, "that table isn't normally there so I didn't notice it". This has to be one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a pub. I have stayed in this area quite a few times over the years and previously enjoyed most of our experiences at this pub. I will not be returning and don't recommend it after this unacceptable experience.

Never stayed here, so can't comment on accommodation. The bar is cosy, with two fires, and the food is excellent. Good beers on tap and friendly attentive staff. Good location for walkers with several circular routes on the edge of the North Yorkshire moors.

I and a group of friends have had our Christmas lunch here the past two years, and will go back again. The food is excellent, always a good real ale on tap, and first class service. All at a fair price. The bar is traditional, cosy with two fires, and a relaxing ambience. Never stayed here, but it's ideally placed for many good circular walks around the edge of the Yorkshire moors. Definitely recommend.

We had a lovely meal last night at The Blue Bell Inn. We stopped over in our micro camper (ring ahead and book as there’s only 1 spot). There is a camping field very nearby and rooms at the Inn if you need accommodation. Super friendly staff. Great food. 5 stars from me.

We had a meal at the Blue Bell Inn last night and were really impressed with the quality and value of the food. Having eaten in lots of places over the years with mixed results, this did not disappoint. Great value, hearty, tasty really well cooked pub food! I can recommend the Chicken Parmesan (went half portion and glad I did!) my partner had the Steak and Guinness pie which was delicious - most amazing gravy ever! And my Daughter had a children's meal which was really generous! Lovely friendly staff, excellent quick service, definitely worth checking out if you're in the area 👍
