Paul and Helen Klein have run the Blue Lion Inn for over 20 years creating a blend of quintessential English coaching inn with modern comfort to relax and recharge. Whatever you require of the Blue Lion, be it real ale and food at the bar to candlelit fine dining and beautiful accommodation you can be sure that your stay will be homely, welcoming and full of friendly character.
After rumbling across the original cobbled driveway enter the Inn and relax in our homely surroundings. Warm up beside our roaring log fires in one of North Yorkshire’s most iconic pubs before collecting your cricket ball key to one of our exquisite bedrooms. If a shorter visit is more for you then unwind with a newspaper from the traditional hangers by the door with a sumptuous meal from the chalked up menu boards.

We were staying nearby and booked a meal (recommended). The food is fine dining, beautifully prepared and served by friendly professional staff. Choosing to mix and take options such as two starters rather than starter and main is quite acceptable so you can eat what you want. The game menu is very good. After 3 courses for two including the drinks I was pleasantly surprised and would say very good value for money considering service, quality of food, ambience and quality of the cellar.
Four of us had lunch today; we had an excellent meal. Not only was the food very good, the service was also excellent. Very friendly staff. The smoked salmon sandwiches were very good (not drowned in cream cheese as normal); the sea bass and ceasar salad were also excellent. We had a very relaxed meal and would certainly recommend and revisit. Many thanks.
Came in for Sunday lunch today with family having been in ourselves previously. Family agreed with us - the best Sunday dinner ever had. Lovely setting too and the staff are always so wonderful. Thank you.
We have just spent three nights at the Blue Lion. We have stayed several times before and wondered what it would be like under new management. We were delighted. The same staff were there and there was a very happy atmosphere. The new owner Melanie Jackson was charming and very welcoming. The chefs are producing delicious food under the tutelage of Shaun Rankin and the newly refurbished rooms are spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated and furnished. It is very good value as well.
