About us

Named after the world famous prophetess who was reputedly born within a stones throw away, the pub itself has a few tales to tell! Originally the toll gate for the nearby Petrifying Well, the entrance is the oldest part of the grade 1 listed building with many strange happenings occurring there throughout its history, just ask the Landlord and Lady!

The Pub is also home to the infamous "Guy Fawkes Table". Once owned by the man himself when he resided at Scotton Hall in 1592, it is one of the oldest pieces of furniture here at Mother Shiptons Inn however there is much more to see!

We are also privileged to have possibly the best beer garden in Knaresborough! A sunny spot beside the river surrounded by the ancient trees with a fabulous view of the Low Bridge that is seldom seen by those that walk it.

Fantastic service, food was all fresh & made to order, generous portion sizes & very tasty! Specifically, Ollie made our visit very special as he knew it was my boyfriends birthday and went above and beyond for us & being super attentive. Thank you Ollie, we’ll definitely be back!

Great atmospheric old pub. Situated by the riverside with welcoming staff and good food. What more could a visitor need.

This place could not have been better, the staff were friendly and the food was incredible! Cannot recommend this place enough, between us we ordered the broccoli starter, chicken main, sticky toffee pudding and orange cake desserts plus a couple of the specials and couldn’t fault them!

Liked this place full of character. Nice location overlooking the river Nidd. Fish n chips were perfect, no bones, no skin and a light batter. Beer was perfect too. Friendly landlord and staff, recommended.

Came for a birthday lunch, 3 adults. Super service and even better food. The place was welcoming to all, families with dogs also there. Outside eating area. Good choice of fresh homemade food. I thought it was very good value for money also. Will be back, maybe for dinner bit would need to book I think for an evening or weekend.
