What a lovely pub at the bay Filey food was lovely it is a bit pricey but thought it was worth it, we had the steak and cooked it to our liking The staff was very friendly and helpful, digs welcome too plenty of water bowls for your pooches. Great atmosphere
Visited the pub for a meal 3 times this week . The first 2 visits were a real joy , relaxed, great service and delicious food however tonight was disappointing . The music was that loud we struggled to have a conversation across the table and my Butter Chicken was not up to the same standard that I gad previously . The rice was over cooked and dry and the ban bread was very hard and dry . Having given the feedback to the waitress , I received a quick apology she said that she would relay the feedback to the chef , and that was it . We will not be visiting again. A disappointing last night of our holidays .

Walked in, waited to be sat to be told to do it our selves from a woman behind the bar which included getting menus which I didn't mind doing myself as she was helpful and told me where they were. I ordered our food and was told a 40 minute wait time which i was fine with since thats how it is some times, for them to be brought out an hour and 20 minutes later and a trip to the bar to see how much longer the wait would be. The food was nice but didn’t exactly fill us up, the burger I had was nice but slightly tough, my other halfs pizza was nice but had a lot of extra flour underneath which made it some what inedible until you physically scraped the flour off it which is an inconvenience in its self. Throughout the meal we were never asked how the meal was and had to consistently swat flies away while eating since every door possible was open. Walked away still hungry and some what dissatisfied with the price of everything and portion sizes.
When we first approached the place, we thought it might have been slightly out of our budget (I only saw old menus online). Yes, there is a price increase, but that is to be expected when the menu I saw was from 5 years ago. The "new" prices are about average and reflect the quality of the food. The John Paul Jones is also a dog friendly pub/restaurant, which is good as long as your dog doesn't bark. The service was fair. We waited a while for our food, but one of the staff came over to explain the chef had put mushrooms in one of our dishes when we explicitly said "no mushrooms" so he had to start again. We were kindly offered a complimentary side of chips while we waited. When all said and done, it was a happy visit.
