Been here quite a few times and always been great food and service. However, not so this time! We both chose Bean Chilli loaded fries. My friend is a vegetarian. When ordering she said 2 x Bean Chilli and actually added.... not beef! He asked if vegan so she said, no just vegetarian. Food came and was piping hot so I started with fries from around the edge & dipping into the cheese/onion/chilli garnish. After a few mins my friend asked if I'd tried the chilli. I thought she'd asked as maybe very spicy etc....she said it was beef. So I pulled back the garnish and saw lumps of mince! We called the man (who I think is the owner) over and said we'd got beef ones. He gave a quick sorry and said something about them not going to waste. I'm sorry but serving meat to a vegetarian needs a sincere apology not a quick sorry. We then had to wait for the Bean version to be prepared and didn't get offered a drink whilst we waited. When the Bean one came, I had to ask for clean cutlery...as obviously we'd put the first set in meat! He brought them and said " sorry again and I've told the chef he needs to get his eyes tested if can't read difference between Bean and Beef" My friend and I just looked at each other in disbelief! I know mistakes happen but the way they are dealt with and a sincere apology goes a long way. Unfortunately it is the only place that is half way house for my friend and I, otherwise we'd take our business elsewhere. So we'll probably go back but definitely won't be ordering that again!! Shame as the Bean version was lovely.... although neither of us enjoyed as much as we should have done!!
Beautiful cosy tearooms. Fancied the pie special and wasn’t let down. The chunky home made chips gorgeous. Nice setting next to the open fire.
Stopped for a light lunch on the way to Scarborough. Warm welcome and very good food. Lots of choice and quick service. Whenever we go to Scarborough we always call in for a meal.
We only had coffee and cakes but the food on other tables looked very nice. Very nice staff and atmosphere. It was very busy but still a prompt service. I had the chocolate scone with chocolate spread, a first for me but would definitely recommend. The shops and gallery are really nice and extremely well priced. Some of the stock is from excellent local artists. Definitely will go back and try a lunch.
Stopped off for lunch on the way back from North Yorkshire. Friendly/efficient staff. Enjoyed lunch & a look round the gift shop. Also our little dog loved the little woodland walk before we left.
