About us

18th century thatched marshland pub with bowling green, situated on the Weavers Way long distance footpath. This refreshingly traditional local is the only survivor in a village which once had three pubs. It offers a warm welcome, and a blazing fire on winter days. Clientele are an eclectic mix of locals, walkers, and those seeking a quiet pub with good company. In winter it may be advisable to ring ahead at lunchtimes.

The Red Lion is selling Charles Reader's new book, The Faces of the Fiend of Breydon. Thank you very much!

Stumbled across this pub whilst bikepacking in Norfolk. Our group was 40 miles into an intense day of cycling - lost hungry and tired. Went inside hoping for some food, but got something more valuable. A huge thank you to Maws and Jayne who gave us directions, guidance and a friendly smile and words of encouragement that got us to the ferry and (20 miles of cycling later) to our campsite for the evening. If I’m back in Norfolk again, I’d definitely visit back for a pint - looks like a proper cosey pub and if we hadn’t have been in such a pickle, would have loved to have stayed for a few. Thanks again for your kindness!

Always a friendly welcome in our local village pub. Burger and Chip nights on Fridays are very popular - and takeaway available too. We always book first so they have a rough idea how many chips are needed - ALL HOME COOKED! When we moved to Norfolk 7 years ago, we had no idea how helpful our local landlady and her family would be to us (or how dry her humor is!) Please call in and make friends!

Looks lovely from the outside but on approach a german shepherd hurled itself against the window snarling and barking. Thats the 'pub dog'. If that doesnt put you off then the 1980s decor will or maybe the fact there is no garden but if you sit on the benches in the carpark the door will be locked on you without a word its nearing 'time'. Shame. Could be a nice pub if the effort was made.
