About us

For over 500 years, The Lifeboat Inn, a traditional hotel, restaurant and bar, has been providing shelter and welcoming visitors to the stunning North Norfolk coast.

It is only when you step inside through the doors of this historic inn that you begin to imagine its heritage and importance to those looking for a shelter from a rough, stormy sea. Today The Lifeboat Inn provides a sanctuary from our increasingly nomadic modern day living and is the perfect harbour from which to explore North Norfolk’s unspoilt seaside and charming market towns and villages.

This coastal hideaway is a homely haven for every guest, two-or four legged. It's a place where wellies, walking-boots and the well-heeled sit comfortably side by side.

In summer, enjoy alfresco dining in our outside terrace or sample our extensive collection of ales, lagers, wines and spirits in our sheltered, courtyard beer garden. In winter, choose between our oak-beamed bar, comfortable lounge with a vast open fire, relaxed dining room or a glass roofed conservatory where a 200 year old vine still fruits and flowers. Look carefully and you'll find a perfectly preserved pitch-penny slot in one of the bar benches, a fun game to play with friends and family at any time of year.

The Lifeboat Inn hotel has 13 extremely comfortable and inviting bedrooms to snuggle up after a day spent exploring the area. Expect stylish furniture, comfy beds, crisp linen and coastal views.

Whether you're popping in for a swift pint of local ale, stopping by for a family meal or wanting to stay with us for a night or more, The Lifeboat Inn guarantees a very warm welcome.

What an amazing, welcoming place to stay, just spent two days at the Lifeboat inn with some wonderful friends. Plenty of parking, the staff were so welcoming and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Such a warm welcome as soon as you walk through the doors, within the hotels public areas every room had a wood burning fire which smelt divine, plenty of seating and dining areas, great outdoor seating at the back, dogs are very welcomed, they even had a sausage for breakfast, no area was out of bounds for your dogs either. Plenty of walking to be done if your up for it with some lovely pubs n dining along the way. We loved every moment of our stay. Thankyou to all at the Lifeboat inn.

Booked for dinner. Although it showed as fully booked we sat in a pretty empty conservatory. Service was slow. Wrong drink was brought out to begin with and the dessert was forgotten at the end. We cancelled the dessert and asked for our bill. Menu was sparce, and nothing like it is advertised on the website. if your not vegetarian and you don't like fish you are pretty much stuck with a very expensive steak. Won't be returning.

We loved our visit to the Lifeboat. We came here for dinner while on holiday in Thornham. The food is tasty and portions are very generous. The baby back ribs and beef burger were great. There is a large car park if arriving by car. Looking forward to a return visit in the future!

A few years ago we ate here and it was excellent. Yesterday after a long walk we had a very good quality meal - big portions! Nice ambience, good beer, interesting menu and good value taking into account the size of the meal

The hotel is in a lovely quiet location. Had beautiful walks through the salt marshes to the beach straight from the hotel door. The staff were lovely. They all Made a fuss of the dog and he even got sausage for breakfast. The food was beautiful. Rooms clean and comfortable.
