About us

Established back in 1456 and nestled on the edge of the Bruntsfield Links, we’re proud to say that we are a much loved Edinburgh public house and one of Scotland’s oldest and finest places to eat and drink.

We’ve embraced our heritage as a traditional golfing tavern and put together a menu celebrating the best in pub fare. There’s classics like beer battered fish & chips or steak pie and roast beef served in a giant Yorkshires on Sundays. Don’t forget to save space for a sticky toffee pudding or cinnamon apple crumble.

Hi there, I am pleased to say on popping into the GOLF TAVERN last week for a pint and something to eat. ( FISH and CHIPS ). Then telling my wife If next time she is up town, pop in to it. Saprisingly she did yesterday, with a friend. She was absolutely delighted with the place. It was as I told her of my visit last week. The bar staff, couldn't be more helpful. Assist in every way they could. Customers that were in the GOLF TAVERN, were very talkative, to my wife and friend. Also very obliging to talk about the sarounding areas. Making them welcome. It really is worth a visit and good value. Also a good pint of GUINNESS. Many thanks to ALL at the GOLF TAVERN see you soon.

We came here for our christmas dinner. The atomosphere in this place in unbeatable especially when there is a quiz here. The wings 9/10 were the highlight of my meal. They were amazing and cannot recommend you get these enough. The roast was okay, I would not have it again as I personally found it lacked any flavour 4/10. I tried some of my friends mac and cheese which was good. I would be back for the quiz 100% which is on every Thursday and for drinks and wings. Our female server was really helpful and told us about the student discount which was great.

This place has a nice open space. Bit of an odd vibe - also the standard “630pm turn the music up” happens which is quite frustrating if you want to have conversations. The toilets are downstairs and a bit of a hike - they’re the old style Edinburgh underground bathrooms but we’re kept very clean - tap water for washing hands was freezing. Not really clear on how the food ordering worked but the menu was compact and varied. The double cheese burger was yum and the truffle fries were great - bit of a wait for food but staff very nice and friendly.
