Breakfast at the pub is very good value for money. There are plenty of options. Poached and boiled eggs cooked to order. I was stuffed. The main menu, on the other hand. Is a pretty standard pub chain menu. Most meals cooked with a microwave. Quality and freshness are not there. Restaurant was freezing cold. I sat in my coat. I couldn't get warm. Service was non-existent. 3 staff managing front of house. 1 manager. 1 food server. 1 bar server. Who happened to vanish and the manager couldn't find them. The manager was flooded with complaints. In particular about burgers. Lots went back to the kitchen. There is no host to seat tables. So it was a free for all. I waited at least 10-15 mins before the manager served me at the bar. As a queue was forming. But was trying to deal with complaints at the same the same time. Food ordered: fish and chips - semt ok. Chicken Tikka - curry and rice fine. Naan bread solid. Poppadom very soft. Roly Poly and custard. Too much pastry/ suet, not enough jam. Scrimped a bit on the custard Atmosphere was not great. 1st night, one table was drunk and loud. 2nd night, a guy pacing up and down constantly complaining to staff, pushing in at the bar. Always on the phone threatening people. This pub is meant to be a family pub with soft play. They hold birthday parties. We've been many times before food, atmosphere, and service have never been an issue. But it's changed for the worst. I wouldn't take my family there now for a meal. An alarm kept going off. Staff would fix it. Then it starts again Needs a new refit. Carpet held together by tape in places. The toilets were very clean. The only plus point. They get 2 stats because their breakfast saves them
Busy restaurant adjacent to the Premier Inn. It's very reasonably priced and the food is decent to be fair - very tasty. My wife had Tikka curry with rice and I had steak & ale pie with mash. It was good honest food at a decent price. Continental breakfast the following morning was extremely busy but everything a traveller needs was provided. Coffee, cereal, toast, bacon, eggs, beans, fruit, yogurt, juice - all available. Spacious interior, nice bar area in the evening and helpful staff do their best. It was clear that the staff were rushed off their feet, but they are friendly and helpful.
I go here often. It is perfect if you have children not just because it has a play area but because of the relaxed atmosphere.
This was convenient as we were staying in the Premier Inn next door. We were seated fairly quickly and then ordered our food at the bar. We ordered two meals and drinks. One meal being fish and chips and the other was the chicken combo. The food came quick enough and was nice and hot and served in a friendly manner. The food went down a treat after walking all day round Edinburgh. They forgot the side we ordered but brought it out quickly after we mentioned it. All in all it was a good meal.
Stayed nearby for a few days and went here for a drink one evening. First thing we noticed while walking up was the litter that was all around. Plastic bottles, sweet wrappers, napkins all lying on the ground and on the tables outside. Most of the tables outside were taken and those that weren’t hadn’t been cleared of glasses, so we decided to go inside where it was very quiet and ordered some drinks. On telling the female member of bar staff about the litter situation outside she just stared at me. Eventually a colleague at some distance said firmly they had been really busy and not been able to get out to sort it. I made my way to a clear table to be told the drinks area was in the other direction. Here there was one table taken, six or seven with dirty glasses left on them. We took the only spare one, downed our drinks and left in record time. On passing here for the next couple of days the litter situation didn’t change. Given all the talk about extra cleaning due to Covid, you really have to roll your eyes when you see a place in this state. This place is actually in a great situation beside the harbour, the outside seating area could be much more appealing if it was at least cleaned.
