Located close the heart of Edinburgh's financial district as well as some of the city's best hotels, Shakespeare's is one of the oldest pubs in Edinburgh. As its name betrays, it was built at the same time as the theatres and served to cater for both the actors and crowds of that age.

This is a cool concept and an interesting atmosphere Unfortunately, the beer was bad. I had two off the tap and either the lines were dirty or the kegs were old. We did alert the bartender. The owner has commented that they do not serve old beer so it is probably worth another go during my next visit to Edinburgh.

Fantastic Pub and brilliant Nachos sharer, definitely recommend. Staff were great and the pub is just what you need for a drink and some food. Great location too.

Stopped in on our way back to our Airbnb. We liked the option to order at our table (after downloading an app, free wifi available in the building). Pictured is the mac and cheese (delicious), fish and chips, gluten free beer.

Stopped in after arriving in Edinburgh and were hungry. Husband and I shared 3 of the "Mix & Share Pub Plates": sticky chicken, battered haddock, & crispy squid. All were quite good and we wanted to order a main plate to share, but evidently they decided to close the kitchen WITHOUT WARNING before 7 pm on a busy Saturday evening, even though their Google listing says the kitchen is open until 9 pm and was "confirmed by the business a week ago." Terrible business operation!! I was enjoying the restaurant and evening until this and won't recommend it because of this terrible service. ETA: Before we finished our drinks, I asked if the Google hours listing was incorrect and was told that they were so busy that the kitchen couldn't keep up and would reopen after a while. This was after we had paid out the tab, though. Would have been nice to have accurate information when we tried to order dinner. Seems like the staff was irritated that the restaurant was busy, though. They were aggressively clearing tables, even out from under us! At least the food was tasty.
