This is the restaurant for Intercontinental Hotel George St. It serves as the breakfast lounge, bar and dining room. It was a printing press, hence the name for the restaurant. The deco ambiance is a bit dated. Rather dark and dim inside. The light fixtures were very retro. The drinks menu was interesting with names of famous people and the drinks which they may have favoured. Food menu was average and uninspired. It read like an outdated menu from another era. It didn’t get any better when the dishes arrived. Cod was obviously poached or sous vide as the center was a tad under cooked. The dish was not steaming hot and the charred gem was cold. There’s nothing special about the charcuterie board. With so many great restaurants in Edinburgh, I will not patronise this place again.
This restaurant is for a proper chill and fancy night out. When we first entered, they were debating with each other whether they should provide us with a table which felt a bit weird, specially that the restaurant was half empty. However, the restaurant is so calm and the music fits perfectly with the ambience. We were served by an Italian waiter and he was very kind. The food is made with good quality ingredients. However, It was not very special.
We were here for a Christmas meal and the food/service were both good, even though they were clearly understaffed. The staff were very attentive, despite the number of tables they had to serve. It was an enjoyable experience regardless of the staffing issues.
This was a spontaneous trip. And this is a fine dining restaurant. Started with goat cheese and a perfect Manhattan. This cheese and beetroot starter was excellent but the drink was disappointing. The steak was also nothing special, wasn’t juicy and chewy. The peppercorn sauce helped but still left a lot to be desired. And lastly the dessert creme brûlée was also quite disappointing with the thick custard and incorrectly glazed top. Overall bill 85£. Would recommend other restaurants.
We had a lovely evening here. The bar is beautiful and serves excellent cocktails so arrive a little early to peruse the menu and have one! Once in the main restaurant area, the food was excellent, and the service was lovely too - attentive but not fussy. Finally, when my partner could not finish all of her risotto (it was beautiful I have to say, but just too large to eat it all :), the staff insisted on taking it off the bill. They wouldn't even hear of us paying for the half that was eaten (and believe me we tried to convince them). They were so lovely about it I can't begin to say. If we come back to Edinburgh we would not hesitate to return here for cocktails and food. Highly recommended :)
