About us

Built in the 1930's, the name Castell Mynach translates into English as: "The Castle of the Monks", referring to an old monastery which the pub overlooked. The ruins of the monastery still stand, providing an interesting site to explore. Originally a residence, the pub was extended to accommodate the hostelry and our pub restaurant now stands on the grounds of the old stables.

A country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character, our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

Whether you are planning dinner with friends or Sunday lunch with family, book a table online and enjoy some quality time with those you love the most.

We were a party of 8 and our table was in a lovely private area. Some of the party were a little late arriving but this did not seem to upset the staff at all. All the people who interacted with us we very polite and engaging. There was a little longer to wait between courses than we would have liked but not a major concern. The food was good and that is the main thing.

First meal at this pub. Probably won't go here again Positives: portion sizes substantial nice festive decor staff pleasant Negatives: couldn't book via app kept crashing prawn and scallop starter not cooked prawns were still grey no discount or offer of a free dessert or drink due to this massive error that could have caused food poisoning Sprouts were supposed to be maple flavoured but weren't, overcooked and bland Gravy incredibly salty desserts not put through as part of festive menu so if bill hadn't been scrutinised we would have overpaid Food very pricey Probably wouldn't go here again unless, if you can't cook a fish dish properly you maybe shouldn't be cooking for people sadly.

What a magic place. Both for having drinks and good conversation in comfy armchairs or for a great dinner in a cozy very special atmosphere. Fancy cuisine or just profane fish and chips - but in perfection! And very nice and helping waiters and chef. I fell in love with this place at once. And I definitely want to come here again.

table of 8 who were seated at 5pm, our orders were taken promptly and our drinks were served quickly. The food, however, took a very long time. by the time started were served, it was already 6:15pm and the calamari was lukewarm and the crispy chicken had some warm pieces and some hot. the scallops were perhaps the only dish which was guaranteed to be hot throughout. it felt as though the calamari had been made quickly and was just sitting under the hot lamp for a while whilst the other starters were prepared. in terms of taste, the chicken is very flavourful and not dry. following this, our mains were served much more quickly compared to the starters but they were also a little underwhelming. the portions are all generally quite large for the price, however the baked salmon, which was a chef special, was very dry. the cod from the fish and chips was also a little dry, but nothing compared to the salmon. by the time we finished eating, we did not have time for dessert as it was already nearing 7:30pm. during the 2.5hours we were there, the pub was not very busy at all, so i do wonder why we ended up waiting around an hour to he served the starters. although the food and wait time was disappointing, our server was very helpful and friendly. she took our orders quickly and double checked to ensure everything was correct as we were a large party. she was also very nice to offer a free ice lolly after accidentally spilling some water on one of the children.

Good options for vegans. Staff were lovely, it was busy and clearly popular. Food was incredible and it was nicely decorated too! Good value for money, I had a soft drink, small wine, starter and main and was ~£25 and my sister had more expensive main and starter with a soft drink for £30. Busy road to cross with little pavement if you come from Miskin Manor but really lovely place!
