What seems (and is) a close knit community are also extremely friendly with newcomers. One foot in the door and you're a friend. Visit again and you're family. The pizza oven is a massive hit and a big draw to the already popular pub. The atmosphere is always friendly and vibrant. The ever expanding beer garden is a huge success during summer months. With regular quizzes, live sport, organised sporting and music trips and various charity events organised and run through the local community, the Red Lion is hands down one of the best pubs in Merthyr Tydfil

Couldn't ask for a better atmosphere, people and friendly environment to enjoy time with family and friends. Superb choice of beers, wines and spirits at an unbelievably cheap price! I had to double check my change. Are now serving homemade pizzas and Parmesan fries which are top quality again, at a bargain price! Obviously the reviews beforehand were slightly drunk and don't have a sense of humour.

After spending over £100 on drinks (group of 10 families) we were then told that prams were not allowed (the baby was asleep and we were told by staff that it was apparently a “space issue and there IS a sign on the door”.....said sign is currently being covered by Christmas decorations 🙄and before us there were only 5 people at the pub - there was plenty of space!!). Do not come to this pub with a pram, or if you are bigger than a pram, they just won’t have the space for you. The same view is taken on wheelchairs. Actually, just don’t come to this pub. Discrimination at its absolute best!!!

Typical cliquey valleys pub. At first, they may all seem welcoming, but if your face doesn't fit, or one of the regulars takes a dislike to you, the locals here will turn on you en masse. And in this place, if you don't play rugby, then that will be the case. Nicely decorated, and reasonable prices, but a bellicose clientele makes for an uncomfortable, hit and miss experience!
