No one at the desk on arrival, which is fine but the long wait before someone did turn up wasn't. A ridiculously long queue and wait at the carvery, it didn't help that the chef kept disappearing and then to top things off the food trays were not getting replenished adding to the queue time. Once served even further disappointment at the condiment counter as it was in a total mess and not restocked. Food eaten and further disappointment due to having to chase to pay the bill, literally!! I guess all down to being majorly understaffed, we won't be using this restaurant again as it was not a good experience especially as there are many alternatives that offer a better service
Extremely disappointed. Dated shabby pubs don’t bother me as long as the food is nice…. The food was awful. The veg was either rock hard or like slush there was no in between and that’s with what veg was actually available the selection was terrible not your standard Toby carvery. The mash potatoes actually made my mother in law gag there were so many lumps and they were no lumps of potatoes what do you mix in?! No Yorkshire puddings! Apparently the chef broke the tray, you only have 1 tray?! The meat oh my god was dryer than Gandhi’s flip flop! And sadly the weak tea colour and consistency gravy couldn’t save it. Utterly disappointing we took my mother in law here for her 60th birthday as she’s lived in Dubai the last 20 years and she was so looking forward to a real British Sunday roast and we were so ashamed we left her cake in the car. This was not the normal Toby carvery experience.
Initial greeting and being shown to the table was fine. My guests, 1 chose the beef and the other had lamb. Both left the majority of it, finding it fatty and not well cooked. Big chunky roast parsnips, fantastic.... No, left far to big so not cooked through properly and definitely not roasted. The building is tired and dirty. Big piece of wallpaper missing from the wall by the toilet, window I was sitting next to was black all around the frame. Wall in my direct view, looked damp with paint peeling off it. Very disappointing experience and we will not be back.
I very rarely go out for a roast dinner, it’s something I would prefer to eat at home. The Sunday lunch was excellent, plenty of meat and as many roasties and vegetables as you want. The staff were excellent very busy and helpful. I was pleasantly surprised, the meal and service were excellent. I will definitely be calling again.
My favourite meal is a cooked dinner with plenty of vegetables and I do enjoy a Sunday roast here. It's delicious. Chefs and all staff work extremely hard and are very attentive no matter how busy it gets. It's appreciated. Will be back. 👍
