About us

In 1780 the Mermaid Inn was one of 23 houses in the vicinity of old Wightwick Manor. The manor house was handed over to the National Trust in 1937, and the Mermaid benefited from a new influx of visitors who came to see the historic house. We still welcome them today.

A country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character, our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

Whether you are planning dinner with friends or Sunday lunch with family, book a table online and enjoy some quality time with those you love the most.

Dreadful experience. The poor waitress was run off her feet had a whole restaurant to serve alone which was full as there was a 50% off mains offer on We waited ages for our order to be taken in fact so long my partner went to the bar to at least order drinks which were then left on the bar waiting for ‘someone’ to deliver them. I got up and collected them. Food was very hit and miss. Mushroom starters had been left in the oven too long so were dry and crisp on top Pie I had was awful. Meat inside was full of fat abs sinew and too tough to chew. Pastry was very nice as were the vegetables but their presentation left a great deal to be desired was as if someone had scooped them up and dumped them on the plate. We had ordered a second drink when the food arrived but unfortunately we didn’t get it! We paid and left. No point complaining. No one was there that we saw in authority to complain to and it wasn’t the poor waitress’s fault. More staff is definitely required for a full restaurant as as far as I could see everyone who came in had booked so the pub managers knew how many would be eating Absolutely rubbish. Wish we had spent our money somewhere That appreciated our custom and provided a meal we could have enjoyed

First time at the mermaid tonight and it’s fair to say we will definitely be returning! A lovely atmosphere and a wonderful 3 course meal! Amazing, friendly service from Jaz who looked after us all night. Also dog friendly which was great for us! Thank you so much!

Our food was amazing. We started off with salt and pepper calamari with a saffron aioli. It was cooked perfectly and tasted phenomenal. We also had a side order of halloumi fires with a chipotle chilli relish. Those were very smooth and light. After that we had our mains of fish and chips and hunter's chicken schnitzel. The schnitzel was topped with a bbq and tomato sauce with smooth melt cheddar and crispy bacon. Then we get to the dessert course. We had a classic banoffee pie and the honey pot. Both were immaculate and not to sweet. Not to mention the staff was amazing. Our waitress' name was Julia. She was on top of making sure our drinks were topped and brought our items when needed, such as sauces, salt and pepper, etc. I highly recommend going here. Thank you Mermaid staff for supplying great food and service.

The mermaid is a very attractive pub from the outside. We have had mixed experiences here in the past and so haven’t been for many years. Myself and my brother took our grandparents here this afternoon. Our experience was again very mixed, food is generally small portions for the price - particularly sauces like custard and gravy. Broccoli was undercooked and so a bit a tough, but our bug bear this time was where we were seated. We were given the table shown in pictures below, one side of which backed onto the “out” door for dinner staff. Throughout our meal this door was constantly thrown open against the wall our grandparents were seated behind startling them often. The service staff were generally good, food came quickly and they regularly asked if we were happy with the food. When we mentioned the issue with the door the waiter simply shrugged and said we have to take food out through that door. Fair enough point but could have acknowledged the issue and taken the feedback.
