About us

Formally owned by the family of Lord Melbourne, this attractive stone built pub is tucked away off Old Duston village main street. This Grade II listed building is a lovely old fashioned village pub. There is a central bar and a long, carpeted bar/lounge with a drop down smaller drinking area behind a central stone fireplace. The pub has two gardens, one beside the pub and another on the other side of the road. The landlord is a real ale enthusiast and is planning beer fests in the future.

Love this place, have recently moved back to the area, so glad we have! This is a typical good old fashioned pub, no food served on site but they have various food trucks on their car park several times a week which you are welcome to enjoy inside, locals are all very friendly and say hello 😊 the pub is also dog friendly, my cockapoo goes in the door even if we’re just passing on a walk! All in all a great place!

What a great atmosphere this village pub has, great friendly service, both staff and customers are super friendly and has good weekend entertainment. Really impressed the first time I went there this weekend.

My first visit, I have recently moved to the area, looking for a local friendly place to find new friends. Did I pick the wrong night??? Atmosphere terrible, people just looked, I spoke and was ignored!!!! I tried to order a drink, it was busy, the barman, a short bloke who was sporting a big bushy beard, was rude, when I was pondering on what to order, then ignored me and started to serve another person who was obviously a regular as they were on first name terms. I had previously seen videos of the groups and singers, but you couldn't swing a cat in this place, yet fill it with a group and still have space for customers. My first impressions - don't bother with this place, I walked around the area and found The Squirrels, 100% better, friendly and served me straight away, they were helpful and gave advice.

Always a good pint and our go to typical 'local' pub. Last visited to watch the Grand National - great atmosphere. Large beer garden, so plenty of outside space.
