Our food here displays a modern take on British and French classics with a certain complexity in the cooking. The Masons Arms was awarded a Michelin Star in 2006 which we still hold and we have been recognised by all of the major guides and local tourism
We aim to serve good honest food, locally sourced wherever possible and with equal care taken in every step from first preparation to final presentation. Sarah runs our front of house and like every traditional local you will soon feel relaxed and at home with our friendly staff. Weather permitting, you can also eat and drink outside with the wonderful countryside of Exmoor as a backdrop.
We went for a 70th birthday meal. The setting is really great. It's been there for centuries. Originally, it was the accommodation for the masons building the church across the road. The food was prepared and presented beautifully. Cooked to perfection. We found it slightly expensive. We had hoped for traditional pub food as it used to be 30 yrs ago.
Just wow ! If you want fine dining then this is the place to go . From walking through the door ,such a warm welcome awaits. Fabulous menu executed to perfection . Lovely atmosphere, tentative waiting staff and knowledge of food being served . 18 years they have been awarded Michelin star and can see why . Family run business with a passion for food and the fine dining experience. Maximum of 26 covers but that is how they give the service they do ! Look forward to another visit in a different season to see what local sourced food is in offer . Thank you also for the birthday sweet platter you made for my husband ,the little things that make it extra special!
Travelled out to Knowstone during a break nearby for a special lunch for our wedding anniversary. We had the set lunch menu which I felt was great value. The star of the show for me was the lamb with Arancini main, the waitress told us it was the first time it’s been on the menu and I feel incredibly lucky that we opted for this day so we got to have it! Perfectly balanced, beautifully tender lamb with a nutty wild rice arancini and the jus tied it all together perfectly. The wine suggestions were excellent also, perfectly paired. I would come back in an instant if it wasn’t so remote, but will definitely recommend to everyone!
Lovely little pub and restaurant; amazing food, good atmosphere and great service. Would highly recommend a visit, it may a little bit out of the way, it’s definitely well worth making the effort for. Hope to visit again soon!
Very lucky to visit this gorgeous pub today. We booked for lunch and they had a menu for a la carte and a separate set menu at a really reasonable price. The set menu had 2 options for each course with some good vegetarian options. Myself and my partner got a different item each and shared, such a good way of sampling a lot of the menu. A highlight for me was the cheesecake, I don't normally have a sweet tooth but it was delightful and so many different components. It was ideal that we were able to take our dog with us, we booked a few weeks in advance. Staff were super friendly and service was good. Definitely would revisit if we were in the area again. Outstanding food quality and you could tell it was very fresh.
