About us

The Masons Arms, a Freehouse, was purchased by Linda & James in 2014. A former coaching house it is one of the oldest buildings in this historic village of Norham. Originally owned by the Mason family, it is one of the oldest public houses in Northumberland.

We pride ourselves in trying to make your stay with us as comfortable and relaxed as possible. We are a family run business, not part of a commercial chain and we treat our patrons as friends rather than customers. We maintain the antiquity of the building, we don't have juke boxes or gaming machines, but we do have darts, dominos and "the bull ring", all to be enjoyed beside our open coal fire. The combination of our locals, visitors and fishermen can give you a feeling of how things used to be back in the day! There is never a shortage of stories to be told, or jokes to be made.

With the river Tweed just a stones throw away, it is ideal for river walks, and nestles on the edge of the Scottish Borders we are in a prime location for exploring the local area, including our own historic castle. Fishing is a popular past time and we have worldwide visitors using the Masons Arms as a base.

Whatever your reason for visiting, we are well positioned for just about anything within a half hour drive, from fishing on the Tweed, to exploring the rugged Cheviots! We are also located just over an hour drive from Edinburgh or Newcastle if you wish to travel further afield.

A pub with a fantastic atmosphere, lovely staff and fantastic beer! It was a pleasantly unexpected modern and airy dining room with wonderfully delicious food. Watch out for the amazing surprise as you enter the ladie's loo, it took my breath away! IYKYK 😉

By pure chance we found the Mason Arms From the moment we stepped in to the pub, the bar maid couldn’t have been more helpful. After choosing our drinks we were shown in to the lovely dining room at the rear, the menu was a great selection of pub food greats. We shared a garlic mushroom starter and glad we did. I went for the gammon with all the trimmings and my wife had the scampi, the portions were plentiful and this is why we were glad on sharing a starter. The ladies toilets have a quirky glass topped well dressed for Halloween Well worth the visit and we will be definitely going back as the food and especially the bar maid were tremendous

A decent pub for a drink but would not recommend eating here. I went with 3 others, my pizza was burnt, other meals included average gammon with a very burnt egg. Portion sizes were very small

What a great place. 3 of us were there for 3 nights as part of a Tweed fishing trip. I have nothing but good things to say. Rooms were great with tea, coffee & biscuits. The breakfast excellent. The staff & owner were very friendly (we even got a 'tour' of the extension they are having built). The beer was good.....& then there was the food! Saved the best to last. Excellent, we ate there every night including Sunday roast! All the food was excellent, big portions & great value. The haddock was the size of a small child! We will return as it is already booked for next Sept fishing trip & will be staying an extra night. Loved it.
