About the Mary Arden Inn

Looking for the perfect place to dine or stay in the heart of Shakespeare county? Relax, you’ve just discovered it: The Mary Arden Inn.

Formerly a splendid private house, the Inn dates back to the 1700s. Situated opposite Mary Arden’s house – the home of William Shakespeare’s mother – it’s a peaceful retreat with comfortable rooms and superb dining.

The Inn is ideally located for exploring Stratford Upon Avon with all its heritage and history; a tranquil haven where you can kick off your shoes, eat well and enjoy all that nearby Stratford-upon-Avon has to offer and as a distinctive venue for your wedding reception or business conference, it truly is one of a kind.

In the Heart of Shakespeare Country

The Mary Arden Inn is situated in the picturesque village of Wilmcote at the very heart of Shakespeare’s Warwickshire. Directly opposite is Mary Arden’s house – the magnificent, thatched and timber-framed Tudor farmstead which was the childhood home of the playwright’s mother.

Three miles away, you’ll find Stratford-upon-Avon, with it’s world-famous heritage sites, such as Shakespeare’s birthplace, Anne Hathaway’s Cottage and the newly rebuilt Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

The Mary Arden Inn makes an ideal base for exploring other places of interest, too – including historic Tudor properties such as Coughton Court and Baddersley Clinton, the magnificent castles at Warwick and Kenilworth and the mellow Cotswold villages.

Our Food and Drink

The Inn has an excellent menu complemented by an imaginative wine list and a selection of ales, served in the comfortable lounge bar with an open fireplace. The bar leads on to a charming terrace and beer garden. If you’d like more information about our dining facilities, click here to Read More…

First time at venue. Ourselves and another couple. Natalie (the new Manager) could not have been more helpful. Great personality and nothing was too much trouble. Room (Twelfth Night) was spacious and comfortable. Once up and running in terms of food provision will be a prospect to be reckoned with.

Don't! Absolute shambles of a hotel! The 'new' manager started his shift as we arrived had no idea what he was supposed to be doing, no backup from staff that had clearly been there some time. Our stay came with breakfast, after asking 3 times where and what time we were told no food being served and they'll see if they can chuck us a drink! Absolutely no refund full stop! Although we probably wouldn't have eaten due to lack of cleanliness! The only saving grace was clean sheets and towels, the bed was falling apart and the room.was desperately in need of tlc. What was supposed to be a romantic stay away to visit Stratford-upon-Avon, was completely the opposite.

We've just stayed at the Mary Arden hotel for one night and were appalled when one of the party found blood on their sheets! We received NO compensation for this. The triple rooms had pop up beds that sank almost to the floor and were very uncomfortable. Our double bed smelt like sick and the wardrobe like burning. I would be surprised if the sheets had been changed before we used the room. The decor was rather nice but it was overshadowed by the poor level of cleanliness of the rooms.

So this review is for the management there ( Rob & His Wife ) very welcoming and a brilliant couple. Rob has me in stitches and his wife was lovely. The reviews they are getting are very unfair. The room we had was perfect for what we wanted and was well presented. Wish you both the best for the future, and we will see you again 👍🏻 All the best Ryan

If you're unlucky enough to stumble across this awful pub then good luck! After arriving with 4 very hungry kids we were turfed out before we even got to the bar. The owner came out to the garden aggressively announcing "no picnics or drinks outside of this pub!" No worries mate.. about to order food "KITCHENS CLOSED!" Sound. Such a shame, we're moored up the road for 2 weeks was about to spend best of 6 nights in this Greene King - won't bother now!
