Hubby and I stayed at Manor House Hotel for my 60th Birthday. We had a room on the first floor, which looked out towards the Castle, sadly closed, but still worth the walk, and as this is on the East side, there were fabulous sunrises, even in January. The view was brilliant, the room a bit tired but comfortable. Meals were excellent and plentiful, the staff were extremely friendly and the atmosphere in the bar, where we had our dinners, was lively. Breakfast was in the dining room, just next to reception, from where you can get a close up view of the Priory next door, ell worth a visit. with options of cereal or toast, to which you can help yourself, along with tea, coffee, and juices. Cooked options are also available and are again excellent. Negatives? Not many, but important to note. Most important to me is the fact that the only fire door with an automatic closure, but not on a magnetic holder attached to the fire alarm system, adjacent to the stairwell and directly outside our room, was permanently propped open with a fire extinguisher, completely against fire regulations and therefore illegal. Secondly and a small thing, in the folder in the room, the tide times were from Oct 2023. Lastly, we checked out at 10m. This was on a Sunday, and with the tide due to change around 1.35, we thought we would have another mooch about the island come back to the hotel for a coffee and spot of lunch, before heading off home. We said to our host, what was on out mind, but he didn't respond other than we could leave our car there. Nobody said at any time, that nothing on the island would be open, for coffee or lunch, including themselves. So we were pretty much abandoned for what turned out to be 4 hours in freezing weather, as due to high winds, the Causeway didn't open for a further 40 minutes. Now of course you cannot expect anyone to be blamed for weather and tides, but I would have expected the hotel to at least have offered the option of popping back for a coffee. Around 6 other people also tried the door to no avail. All in all we enjoyed our stay, but you can do everything in 1 day, just check the tides.

Warm welcome, great staff Great views, room no.3. The hotel is in a prime position. Excellent food available - hot, fresh and plenty. Loved the lamb rump for dinner and the Northumbrian breakfast, although not a fan of haggis, other options available! Excellent wi-fi I will be back

People very friendly, food excellent and room comfortable with stunning view. Located next to the priory and close to the castle and harbour. Downside: Upper floor corridor fire door was held open with a fire extinguisher. Choose your last day carefully to avoid Sunday, at least during winter months. You need to vacate your room by 10 am, which is fine but, once you've left the hotel you're abandoned to roam the streets or sit in your car waiting for the tide to turn to reveal the causeway. Everywhere is closed, even the hotel locked its doors after we'd left. We wrongly assumed the hotel would be open to the public for coffee, as their advertising suggests; there's no opening hours on the website and they don't answer the phone. Several guests tried the doors to the bar area. Waiting 4 hours in the cold spoiled our stay.

Only place open for food and drinks on a Sunday.Good service, only one girl doing both the bar and waiting. Food was disappointing,BLT-"more salad than bacon,on a bap, advertised as brea. very basic, chips were freezer chips, weren't hot .Over priced food ,for what you got. Toilets were pretty run down, broken toilet roll dispenser, hand dryers not working, toilet seats were falling off and pretty dirty all round . disappointed ☹️

Still serving food when everyone else on the island seemed to have given up for the afternoon. Great vegan food, a really rich tomato and pepper soup with gluten free bread and a properly done vegan burger. Much better than the allegedly identical burger from a pub a couple of miles away on the mainland. Would recommend.
