About us

CAMRA Pub of the Year 2015, we are proud of the reputation we have acquired for serving only the very best quality beers and fine foods. At any one time our customers can choose from seven Real Ales or four Traditional Ciders. The distinguished Black Sheep Bitter is our only resident beer with six ever changing "guest beers" which are served alongside.

The beers are complemented by our exceptional value for money food from "The Dragons Pantry" served daily from 12noon till 2pm weekdays and from 12noon till 4pm weekends.

The pub, originally know as the Railway Tavern, and later The Lendal Bridge Inn, was established in 1842. The current owner, Anita Adams, purchased the pub from Bass in 1992, and renamed it The Maltings. Anita's daughter, Maxine, and son-in-law, Shaun have run the pub since then and they continue to do so to the present day.

Usually our go-to first pub when we get the train to York, but might not bother next time. Met by a greeter who didn’t seem to like customers without reservations. Felt that we (and other customers) were treated a bit rudely - certainly not the friendly welcome we’d expect and have received previously. She maybe needs to cheer up a bit and work on her customer service skills. Didn’t bother staying for a second drink as we clearly weren’t welcome.

Pub handily situated between the railway station and city centre. A cracking range of real ales perfectly kept and dispensed by happy knowledgeable bar staff. My wife confidentially proclaimed the toasted cheese and bacon sandwich as the best she'd ever eaten. The homemade chips were also pretty damn good. Run by the same couple for 31 years so they know their stuff. Worth missing your train for

Stopped at this little pub during a daytrip to York and were very happy. Staff was very friendly and got around to us quickly during rush hour. Pints were good, but food was also quite good. Chips and Cheese were delicious, with the chips clearly home made. Decor was quite nice too! Proximity to train station is also a good bonus. Would recommend a visit.

The food were absolutely delicious with big portions just under £9. Friendly staffs and quiet. Pretty chill place to hang out. Would come back again.
