About us

Set in peaceful countryside and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty within Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site Buffer Zone, we are surrounded by stunning views of the Lakes and Scotland.

Although tenanted, the Lowther Arms is a cooperative and community-owned pub, saved from permanent closure and conversion to a house by the local community and over 300 shareholders.

After being closed for two and a half years, the pub re-opened in June 2021, and is now more than a pub – offering a comfortable place to have a drink, enjoy a meal, meet with friends, or simply a quiet corner to read in. Whether you are a local, a visitor, walker, or cyclist, come and relax in our lovely pub with its beer garden and stunning views of the Lake District.

Our 4-pitch caravan site is open and booking is highly advisable. We have 3 pitches for tourers and motorhomes, a Pod, plus camping.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the bar, conservatory and beer garden.

We look forward to seeing you!.

Decided to pop to the Lowther Arms for lunch with a friend. What can I say. Lovely welcome. Happy staff. Willing to meet our needs. We didnt want a large meal. So they just made the starters a little bigger. (For a very reasonable charge). The Desserts were to die for. Service was perfect. Not overpowering but attentive enough to notice if we needed anything. And made us feel very comfortable.

Absolutely fantastic!!! Very welcoming and accommodating. We stayed in the pod with 2 dogs as an overnight stay. The dogs had the full run of the enclosed field from the nice warm pod. We booked in the pub for our evening meal and were not disappointed. Fabulous all around. Would happily come and stay again when we are up this way.

We’ve visited the Lowther Arms several times since the new tenants, (Ben, Carl and Pam) have taken over, and what a great job they are doing. The new decor of the pub is very welcoming and tasteful. On every occasion we’ve eaten the meals have been delicious, well cooked and plentiful. The tenants and their staff are always courteous, friendly and professional, a credit to the village. Highly recommended

What a wonderful place to visit on the beautiful Solway coast. Time just slipped away we were so comfortable in this fabulous pub. The environment was very clean, tastefully decorated to a high standard and there was plenty of room between tables to afford some privacy and comfort. The welcome was so warm and the staff couldn’t be more friendly. The positive vibes continued with gorgeous, tasty food predominantly sourced from local businesses and complimented by excellent service. The owners are passionate about their business and this is really evident. They are open 7 days from 12 noon and offer camping facilities too in the heart of this scenic village. Can’t recommend The Lowther Arms highly enough and we will definitely be back soon. Dawn

This community pub has recent one under new management who are well experienced in the trade. It's had a recent refurbishment to a good standard. It is furnished for dining and served pub grub cooked to a high standard at reasonable prices. We enjoyed our meal especially because the chef had made bread and butter pudding, a definite winner. Dogs are welcome in a separate section of the bar. There is parking to the rear. All-in all a pleasant visit.
