About us

Located close to Edinburgh University in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town, Doctors has strong links with both Edinburgh university medical college and the old Royal Infirmary which originally stood across the road. The building itself was created to mark the opening of the hospital in 1874 and relics from this time can be seen around the pub, serving as a macabre reminder of its place within Edinburgh’s gothic history. It also initially housed a cabinet and coffin maker for the neighbouring mortuary!.

What a find, a truly friendly pub. The bar man was so welcoming and couldn't do enough to make our visit enjoyable. The food is reasonably priced we had the Fish & Chip which was delicious. Great choice of drinks for everyone.

This place was great! I'm new to Edinburgh and was expecting more of a bar than a restaurant, but the drinks were great, the music was great, and the service was impeccable. My table got the salmon cheddar cakes and a bacon cheeseburger, and they were both great, portions and taste. Would definitely come back to watch the live sports or dine on their expansive and delicious menu.

Lots of TVs and seating to watch an FA cup third round match with really great service. The main knock being the food was really just too greasy- a friend who lives nearby recommended the fish and chips but the batter was practically falling off the filet because it was too soggy. Plus you only get one medium piece of fish. Even the halloumi, which had at least a little crisp, was sweating from inadequate frying. I would go back but just wouldn’t order anything fried next time.

An absolute perfect pub in the heart of Edinburgh old town. The staff, especially the main guy behind the bar, are very friendly. The pub itself is cosy and the food is outstanding. I highly recommend this perfect pub. If I'd live in Edinburgh I couldn't live a day without coming in here 🍻

5 stars for this pub because I cannot leave 10. Traditional Scottish pub with local food. Amazing fish n' chips and the pie was very good! The suggestion for adding vinegar and salt on our potatoes has changed our lives 😋 👌 . Totally recommended! Definitely I will visit it again when I am back to Edinburgh. Cheers from Greek guys who drink slowly our beers🍻.
