A quiet Tuesday night in January for my partner's birthday, so wasn't expecting a tear up. Was a little chilly even after moving to the table next to the fire. Food was good,. New staff member being trained up,hope they passed.
The pub is lovely and so is the food. Very fresh ingredients and well presented. However we were sat quite close to the bar where the manager was very condescending and patronising towards junior staff. He was very happy throwing patronising criticism and orders towards a young staff member, and we felt it somewhat ruined the atmosphere for us. We felt a bit awkward for the rest of the meal and were quick to leave where we would usually would have stayed for another drink. We would go back, if the male bar manager were to undertake some management training and treat his young staff (who were fantastic) with the respect that they deserve. Or at least, if he has the decency to be rude to them in staff only areas instead of in front of customers.
Recently went to the Taste of France night with my girlfriend - what a night! Excellent champagne, food and atmosphere. The staff were great and you could tell everyone was having a brilliant time. Can't wait to go back!
Service is always excellent! The food is served promptly and overall good. Today we had the bangers and mash which was enjoyed. The salmon and haddock fishcake was a bit disappointing as it was pretty much potato with some salmon/haddock flakes. Not necessarily bad, just not what was offered. Truffle and parmesan fries were ok too. Loved seeing the fire lit on a cold and rainy day, it was a highlight of the visit.
Great Sunday Lunch with family in this lively and popular local pub. Service was fun, relaxed and friendly, Henry, our server gave his recommendations and they were spot on, loved the croquettes for a starter. The main roasts were excellent, portions were generous and the meat was succulent and tasty. Good value for money, worth booking to guarantee a table.
