Popped in to Port Talbot Wetherspoons and I was surprised with a good service by thr bar staff with quickly made food that arrived. Food was a really good standard 👌 my boy enjoyed the ultimate burger and I had the buttermilk chicken burger. They also have thing slide steak night and curry nights so maybe popping back in again soon.

The food here is always a win! Cheap prices for pretty decent menu options (as most Spoons' are). The staff are hit and miss, you either get really friendly and smiley helpful staff, or grumpy, miserable and unhelpful staff. More recently we have had quite grumpy staff which is a shame. The atmosphere is usually friendly and light hearted. On a weekend evening its usually the typical loud and sometimes difficult to talk atmosphere.

Having been to many Wetherspoons around the UK, this local one is familiar to me, but I haven't had food here for some time. I opted for a standard mixed grill, where the first impression was not too good. The meat content, lamb sausage, sirloin, and chicken, were all quite black and obviously scorched. As I had asked for rare steak and not cajun, it was a disappointing sight! The other meal we ordered, was a medium rare 8oz sirloin, again, clearly cooked under a very high flame (see pic) as it too was black all over the outside, more rare inside than med rare, which suggests the cook has little knowledge of best ways to cook steak. Another clue regarding the ability to cook steak, was the waitress, when challenged regarding the overcooked fare, stating that the cook had said that, because the steaks are so small (6oz) they can't be cooked rare. I've never heard such nonsense! The 8oz steak was warm, not hot, but pretty black on the outside, as if put on a very high heat for 3 or four minutes. I did get a replacement meal, after refusing to accept the cooks excuse regarding portion sizes. The appearance of the food was definitely improved however, it was not particularly enjoyable to eat. The lamb sausages seemed to be very similar to value pork sausages, the steak was thin and dry as was the pork. The chips looked unappetising but, were quite nice, as was the mushroom. The 1/2 tomato was warm, had signs of being placed on a hot surface, but could not be described as 'cooked'! In the end I had to 'throw in the towel' and leave around 40% of my meal, as it was not entirely inedible, but I couldn't say I enjoyed much of it. I really dislike giving such negative reviews as this, but the standard of food preparation did leave a lot to be desired, however the service was very polite and efficient, even if the waitress made an attempt to excuse the performance of the kitchen. The beer was what I expected it to be, tasty and enjoyable, the rose was also perfectly fine.

Busy day. Popped in for quick bite to eat. Service is consistently good. Friendly staff. Nothing too much bother, even though they were rushed off their feet. Menu is fine for mid week bites. 4☆ due to quality of food. X3 choices for £11.35
