Absolutely spectacular roast, literally the best we’ve had. Annoyingly, even better than the one we make ourselves and ours is great :-) Service was lovely from Liz, Megan and Amelia, and chef Rob is clearly passionate about every aspect, from sourcing and avoiding short cuts to flavour and presentation. We can’t wait to go back (and are in a couple of weeks!)

Can’t thank Liz, Rob and the team for organising the most amazing wine tasting Dinner, the food was superb as usual along with the fantastic atmosphere and service. The wines were gorgeous and well matched with the food. You could not have put the nicest food and wine together any better. Thank you all.

After reading reviews on this pub prior to our visit, my partner and I felt confident that we would have a good experience (I should point out that my partner and I rarely complain). We were shown to our table, then left to make our choices - the menu looked inviting. Once the food was ordered we had quite a wait. I had ordered the duck which, presentation wise looked good, although it appeared slightly under done and was extremely chewy, I could barely cut into it. My partner had the fish which again looked lovely, but tasted bland, I tried some and thought it was lacking any flavour, the sauce around it was pretty tasteless too. I ended up asking for something else, which the waitress agreed to. My partner then had to eat his meal whilst I waited for another dish to arrive (we didn’t want him eating cold fish and cold greens). After about 15 minutes the food arrived (and I do understand that you cannot make food appear in a couple of minutes). The pie and mash brought to me looked very appetising, with a separate bowl of greens and carrots. This dish tasted much better than the first, the pastry was lovely, although there wasn’t much inside the pie, mostly gravy, and about two very tiny bits of beef and a couple of bits of kidney. After we finished our meals we had another long wait. We had to ask for more water, and we also had to request desserts. Another long wait and the desserts arrived. Again these looked very appetising, and we did demolish them despite tasting something bitter in the sauce. Maybe the butter was slightly burnt in the process of making it. Anyhow, once we’d finished we just wanted to get going. I went to the bar to pay and waited a couple of minutes whilst the waitress appeared to be processing receipts. At no point did anyone ask how our food was, which is fine as it’s just a pub at the end of the day, but given this pub has won awards we thought the pub as a whole would have reflected this both in terms of food and service. For the price you’d expect better. We would not recommend this pub based on our own experience, and the disappointing food and service.

Went for dinner with friends recently. The pub is lovely and the service is good too. Between us we had two steak and kidney pies, the burger and fries and the boullabaise. We also shared a "smoked cod roe and prawn crackers" starter. The fresh homemade bread and butter brought to the table is divine and the starter was absolutely knock out amazing. All of the food is a very high standard, although the fries were not the best I have had. I prefer more of a "chip" than a fry and the prices have increased significantly since we last visited. We were too full to have a dessert, but enjoyed a homemade petit four each when we asked for the bill. The Longs Arms is a wonderful top notch gastro pub and a good choice for a special occasion. I would have given five stars, but we felt that £24 for pie and mash and £34 for boullabaise was a bit steep. Didn't get photos of all the dishes unfortunately.

Best food in the area without a doubt! Our second visit - and just as amazing, if not better than our first. Even the burger is impeccable and so well balanced. Lovely staff as ever too. Cannot recommend enough!
