ABOUT THE MERCHANT

Nestled between the hullaballoo of Clapham Junction and the tranquillity of the Common, we are a friendly local for a wide and varied community and that’s the way we like it. Having been through a few different disguises in the past, our recent refurbishment was all about comfort and quality. We hope we are a pub that suits everyone at any time of day or night and does it brilliantly. Whether you’re looking for a delicious dinner with friends, a sports venue with a proper atmosphere, a quiet place for a working lunch, a quick chat on the way home from work or a cozy corner for reading or romance, we do our best to make your stay at the Merchant the best we can.

The food was disgusting. We ordered various things and the buttermilk chicken was smelly, it smell to off. The calamari were tasteless and the same with the fish and chips. Very disappointed with the food.

We used to live near the pub before. Had moved away few years ago. It was great to come back here. Great service and lovely staff

Quiz was so good and great place to watch sports. Roasts were good, food was quick and Charlie the bar tender was lovely but there are a few things that really let down our evening.. The fish and chips were so bad!!!! First one that came out was burnt (see pics) so asked for a new one which was soggy (uncooked batter) so couldn’t eat most of it and the chips weren’t great either. The schnitzel was very dry too. The worst part was that my friend ordered the Korean fried cauliflower but was given the other type which comes with nuts which she has an intolerance to, so it’s very lucky she isn’t so allergic so didn’t go into anaphylactic shock!! It was very dark so she couldn’t see the almonds on top so took one bite and spat out but it could have been bad. we complained about this and the Waitress said that they had ordered one with nuts on and it clearly says on the menu that it has but they ordered the one that doesn’t specify, the person who took their order confirmed their choice and the wrong one came out. The waitress in question was extremely moody and rude and obviously didn’t want to be there either. Would come back but would never order food again.

A bad roast is disappointing at the best of times, but when you pay £20 for the privilege it can really ruin your day. Dry and tasteless beef couldn’t be accompanied by condiments because the staff member threw it down and walked straight off. The meal arrived lukewarm, and the one staff member on the bar was doing her best to manage the queue, meaning it would have been fridge temperature by the time we’d gone to the bar to bar to ask for the horseradish that the menu promised! The Yorkshire puddings had clearly been sat out all day, the roasties were dry as could be, and there was some bizarre hunk of bland uncut cabbage that filled the plate but added nothing to the meal!

Didn’t expect to come here but glad that we did. Popped in for a catch up and drinks and we had a great time. They have a good selection of cocktail drinks, and their sweet potato fries has an interesting taste. It’s a nice pub with plenty of seats inside and outside.
