I know that people have different views in respect of the landlady of the GH, but the comments by the last four people to review (clearly one group) display a mind boggling sense of entitlement. It is a business after all and if everyone took their approach then 50% of customers would not be buying anything in the pub - not the best business model. I wonder if they have tried this in a restaurant? As a regular visitor to the US I know it wouldn't be accepted there. Why the reference to 3 of the 4 being people of colour? There is nothing to suggest racism here - buy a drink and problem solved.
DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS. My friends (POC) came here for a quick drink and 2 out of the 4 of them got a beer. The manager came over to them and very rudely told them they had to leave. The bartender was very dismissive and seemed as if she wasn't allowed to have a thought as she directed them to the manager when they asked her if the rule was you had to order a drink. Do not go here unless you want to be kicked out.
Do not go here if you are a person of color. The older woman in charge was extremely rude and aggressive. She forced my friends and I to leave the bar because only 2 out of 4 of us had ordered drinks. She continually glared at us from across the room, spoke bad about us to other customers, and then eventually spoke to us directly. In all truth, her uncouth behavior seemed racially motivated. She told us we "couldn't just move in here" even though we were a group of paying customers. Completely unprompted by us, she asserted that she wasn't being aggressive even though she clearly was and we were speaking back to her in a polite tone. Terrible experience overall, and the drinks weren't anything to write home about either.
This is one of the few times I ignored the Google Reviews score as I was guided by the Timothy Taylor’s pint finder on their website for a pint of Landlord. And we were not disappointed! On a busy Saturday with plenty of people in the area for the markets, this was a nice break from the madness. The young bartenders were super friendly and so helpful. We asked to look for the EPL on the television and to make a couple custom cocktails in addition to a proper pint of Landlord and some draft cider. They didn’t hesitate and were so cool about it. Without a doubt this place is better than its average score.
