The George is the old and new, the then and now. Where social barriers are broken down, everyone is very friendly, ladies are looked after and blokes are gents.
The George opened in 1865 and was rebuilt in 1932 and is still going strong. It’s one of the few remaining pubs on the island committed to the local community.
At The George we want to be a reflection of the needs of our local community. We offer fantastic food focusing on simple, good quality ingredients - doing the British classics well. We serve lunch and dinner Monday to Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday, as well as all day bar snacks. To compliment the food we have an excellent range of beers, hand selected wines and seasonal and fun cocktails.
We aim to have fun and laughter in our traditional East End pub. Come down for our quiz nights, tribute acts and monthly special events. Located opposite Crossharbour DLR station, it’s in easy reach from Canary Wharf, the Docklands and the Isle of Dogs.

Came in here over the weekend and was greeted by a very helpful gentleman named Shane. Really made my time there feel important and was very attentive and always made sure me and my party were enjoying ourselves! Since this place has changed hands it’s gone uphill fast! Will definitely be coming back!
No ales or IPA were on offer during my visit. I settled for G&T as an alternative. Quite busy on a Saturday afternoon. A children's party appeared during my visit with toddlers running around banging and screaming. I don't know when it has become acceptable to hold children's parties in pubs but it is not the place when you are trying to enjoy a quiet drink. We ordered food and it took over half an hour to arrive and that was after asking the barmaid. The sausage and mash was stone cold and was sent back. The burger was also cold and nothing but average with a very small portion of chips. Not very good value for money. Very disappointing experience.
PLEASE, Please sort and TRAIN your staff for Gods sake !!! People behind bar is talking in their own language, restaurant is out of Merlot wine, out of Ribeye stake - not sure where is the problem to have these items in stock on SATURDAY night. Very untrained, absolutely unprofessional staff and waiters - and it’s not even their fault - because your restaurant/bar didn’t give them enough training
literally the worst Sunday roast I’ve ever had. Beef was incinerated. Ironically before Covid, this place was amazing and they had the best pink beef roast and pork with stuffing and crackling. We asked if they’ve changed the chef - they said the key chef has left 2 weeks ago. RIP George, never again for us (which is really sad). But at least we had closure.
Great pub with lots of rooms with plenty of tables, they also have a beer garden with covered areas which gets plenty of sunlight in the summer! Plenty of event being run weekly from sports, pub quizzes and live music. They also have a set lunch menu which is great value and tastes great.
