The York in Islington London within a short stroll of Upper Street, Angel Tube and Duncan Street. A traditional pub of unique character, revered for its eclectic range of real ales and its quality pub food, which are all served just as they should be.
Until the late 18th Century, the site of our pub was open fields and part of a farm. We were first established as The York Hotel in 1851 and dairy cows once grazed up to the back door. An historic print from 1819 shows a view from outside the pub, with St. Mary's Church and bare-knuckle prize fighting on the green.
Traditional pub at Angel that gets really crowded at popular times. It's a good place to watch sport or (ideally in nice weather) sit outside and watch the world go by. They have a good range of beers.
My husband and I frequently pop into The York for a drink and always find the staff very helpful and lovely. The place is always lively but we also usually can find a spot to sit (earlier in the evening) which is great. Recently, I held a small surprise birthday gathering (approx 12 people) there for my husband and the staff went above and beyond to make it a great evening! They were very accomodating, helpful and just brilliant service over the whole course of the evening. We are so pleased this pub exists in Angel and look forward to many more evenings spent there. Thank you!
Having a quick one night tour of London including watching The Who last night at the O2. Have walked along the Regent's canal for 7 miles and now having a well earned pint and Aperol Spritz . Smart typical London pub always well presented with lovely flowers outside and pleasant staff....bit of a shock at £18.35 for our drinks and a packet of crisps and peanuts, but it's London!! Sat outside and people watched. Lovely area ....Angel Islington.....
A lovely pub near Angel tube station. We went in for a drink on our way back to the hotel on a Thursday evening, so it was very crowded and busy, but this didn't prevent us from enjoying a pint of Huntington's (seem to be their partner brewery) and a glass of cider. Bonus point : you can enjoy your drinks outside, they provide chairs and tables. Small update: food is excellent !! We tried fish and chips, sausages and mash and grilled chicken, dishes were tasteful and freshly made. Definitely one of our favorite place in Islington. Thank you
Large, single room corner pub, close to Angel Underground Station. Also a nice seating area out front. Nicholson’s-owned, so a good selection of cask ales and craft beers, but fairly average pub grub. My London Pride was well kept. Gets very busy after work but always plenty of staff, so easy to get served quickly. Staff were friendly and helpful too. Maybe better pubs in the area but a decent option.
