About us

The idea is to provide Londoners with a really relaxed venue for eating the finest British produce, cooked amazingly well, accompanied by excellent beer and wine at a great price. Please remember that even though we serve fabulous food, we are still a Pub and there is a lively, friendly atmosphere and at times (particularly on Tuesday quiz night) the noise level can rise!

Head Chef Barry Fitzgerald continues Stephen William’s work in the kitchen, with ingredients coming from a variety of carefully sourced producers. We are known for the finest game and wild food - predominantly from Berkshire, where Mike shoots all the venison on various estates. Seasonality is all at the Harwood, and the food is proudly British in character. Menus are a collaboration between Barry, Brett and Mike, whilst the beer side of the pub is handled by Edwin.

The front of house team is headed up by Alex Sergeant, who has developed the wine list into something really special - Alex will help you choose something memorable to go with your meal, whether you are eating pigeon or venison or English snails! You will always find the finest of British Ales and Bitters on our bar, because this is a proper pub.

In September we won the "Fine Dining Pub Wine List of the Year" from Imbibe magazine. We have been lucky enough to receive many accolades over the last 3 years, and whilst not wanting to blow our own trumpet, we are very proud to hold the first and only Michelin star to be awarded to a London pub.

We hope that you will enjoy this remarkable combination of the best of Berkshire and the buzz of London and that this website gives you some idea of what is in store.

I was looking forward to this reservation as I had to book this months in advance for a Sunday slot and whilst I am glad to have tried it out, it’s not somewhere I would rush to come back. The food was tasty but I didn’t think it was exceptionally different from many other high end pubs with prices 1/3 of the price. The venison scotch egg was the highlight and it was a shame that wasn’t included in the main 3 course menu and needed to pay for that on top. The wine was also very good although not a wide range of price options. Aside from the food, the service was sadly not that special or attentive, and I was expecting more for the price we paid.

First experience at a Michelin-Star Pub. We started off with the seasonal mulled wine which was great. Aside for the Lasagne of Rabbit Shoulder which I truly enjoyed, food was just average. For our mains, we had the Cumbrian Pork for 2 and Short Rib of Red Ruby Beef. Both dishes were delicious, but didn’t left much of an impression. For dessert we had the Plum Ripple Ice Cream which was beautifully plated but felt a bit busy and a lot going on with every bite. We also had the Custard Flan which was nice, but again didn’t leave much of a lasting impression. For a Michelin star restaurant/pub, the price point for the 3 course menu was quite affordable. We do see a number of great reviews and may come back to try the Sunday roast another time.

You have to book months in advance to get a Sunday slot. food was lovely, the beef was perfectly cooked, the potatoes a little bit to crispy for our liking. the scotch egg was delicious, really full by the end but we had to share the desert at the end would definitely book again and recommend to all my friends.

Tried the 3 course menu. Overall was a really decent lunch. Onion tart with goat cheese was delicious but really filling. Chips with roe was surprisingly good. The fallow deer was perfect but the cod was slightly overcooked. Would still highly recommend to come try their lunch course.

Food 6/10 Great meal, but it was just not the type of food I enjoy the most. Scottish venison eggs and onion tart were the highlights of my meal. It was overall quite a rich and hearty meal, with no breaks, as we started with the rich scotch eggs, had some complimentary rye bread with whipped butter (delicious and warm), and ended with deer, mushrooms, in a creamy and heavy sauce. My stomach was not at its best when we ended this meal, but I did enjoy getting a chance to try the flavors. Atmosphere 7/10 Very much a gastropub vibe. Dark wooden interior with fur decor (no clue if it’s real or not). We were seated in a snug corner, vibes. Service 5/10 Even though we were seated at 8:30, we didn’t get to our main until 10pm, so it was quite a delayed meal. Wish it was faster, they were not as attentive as I had hoped.
