About us

The Brownswood, (271 Green Lanes, London, N4 2EX), stands equidistant between Stoke Newington, Finsbury Park and Manor House and just a couple of hundred yards

from the north West entrance to Clissold Park stands this handsome Victorian public house. Opened in early August 2011, and brought to you by the same family who run such hostelries as Stoke Newington’s Rose & Crown and the real ale lovers Jolly Butchers, and Highgate favourite The Wrestlers.

The Brownswood brings you the finest that the great British boozer has to offer. Hearty pub classic dishes, served from our open kitchen, a bank of 8 hand pumps offering some of the country’s finest real ales, a great selection of real cider from Devon and Somerset, premium lagers, white beer, stout, and all served with a smile!

We have also opened up the 1st floor which has a cosy, homely feel, an open fireplace and a sprinkling of lounge seats. A good place to chill out and relax, and sure to be an ideal haven during the cold winter months.

And to top it all, we have extended the beer garden to be able to seat 150 guests comfortably, put in some fancy lighting, cosy seating and two covered areas with outdoor heaters.

Kids in Pubs? A sure way to divide a pub going nation! We love kids, so here's our compromise - 7.30pm curfew and then beddy-byes. Dogs of all sizes and breeds welcome! Ask one of our friendly staff for a dog bowl so they can indulge in some liquid refreshment at the same time as you.

So, a Brownswood burger, Bangers & Mash, Beer Battered Fish and Chips or one of our specials, all washed down with a glass of blackberry cider in the sun before retiring to the lounge?

Just a thought.

Great place for a drink spacious even when busy. Not in centre of all the noise, but close enough to get to and back with ease. Staff are friendly and have good banter. Would be great if they accepted cash.

Amazing room. We had the n°2 room. It was very clean, comfortable and well designed. We had diner at the restaurant, it was just delicious. The vegan burger was so tasty and generous. The breakfast was amazing, generous and loved the fresh fruit salad. We loved it all and hope to come back next time we come to London. Thanks for everything

A great pub. 4.5 stars but putting 5 to not give a pull down ranking. I have to admit I've gone past it many times but only recently went in. The building, space available and beers seem to be the jewels of the browns wood tavern. I didn't eat. Staff seemed nice. Worth calling out that the range of beers was very good and signs of quality there, with branded glasses.

Me and my husband just checked out and I just needed to say everything was amazing. The staff were so incredibly friendly, nice and helpful. The rooms were great. We were here specifically for the Arsenal game, couldn’t beat the location. Even in great walking distance of other restaurants, main roads and shops.

Genuinely fantastic Sunday roast. Brilliant stuff. Nice staff too. Excellent beer choice. But damn the lighting is horrible. Harsh and bright. Makes the grand old pub look like a 1970s waiting room. For the love of all that is sacred put a few standard lamps around and turn off those central lights.
